Division of Emerging Pollutants and Environmental Health, led by Professor Eddy Y. Zeng, a recipient of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars and the Editor-in-Chief of the Environmental Pollution, is an interdisplinary research institution hub dedicated to advancing studies in environmental health and its associated domains. Our mission is to delve into the intricate interplay between environmental factors and human health through pioneering research, propelling advancements in the realm of environmental health. The Institute's research endeavors are geared towards heightening public consciousness regarding the nexus of environment and health, furnishing empirical evidence and expert guidance to policymakers, and fostering the realization of a vision for a healthy and sustainable environmental future.

Research interests of this institute include 1) Environmental migration and transformation of heavy metals, traditional organic pollutants (such as polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, organochlorine pesticides, brominated flame retardants BFRs), and the emerging pollutants (such as persistent organic pollutants, endocrine disruptors, antibiotics, micro- and nano-plastics); 2) Analytical methods for emerging pollutants such as drugs and hormones, and their eco-environmental toxicological effects/mechanisms; and 3) Environmental big data and artificial intelligence (AI). Members of the institute have published over 400 SCI papers, in journals including but not limited Science, Nature Communication, Environmental Science & Technology, Water Research, Environmental Pollution, Journal of Hazardous Materials, Environmental International, and have applied for/been granted over 20 patents.
