Division of Solid Wastes Treatment and Recycling，being called “Division of Solid Wastes” for short, mainly carries out teaching, scientific researches and social service activities in the field of solid waste treatment and recycling. Currently, our Division consists of 8 members, which includes 5 professors, 2 associate professors and 1 lecturer. Among them, there are two New Century Excellent Talents of the Ministry of Education, one 100/1000/10000 Talents of Guangdong Special Support Program, one 1000/100/10 Excellent Talent Plan in Guangdong Province, and one winner of Hou Defeng Young Scientist Prize of Mineral and Rock Geochemistry.
The division undertakes the undergraduate teaching courses including Solid Waste Treatment & Disposal, Engineering Design of Solid Waste Treatment & Disposal, Hydraulics, Environmental Planning & Management, Environmental Economics, Environmental Monitoring, Environmental Quality Assessment, Biology for Water and Wastewater Treatment, Utilization & Protection of Water Resources, Building Environment Theory, Introduction to Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, the Technology of Resource Extraction, Environmental Ecology, Environmental Statistics, Technological Economics and so on. The institute published several textbooks, including Solid Wastes Pollution Control Engineering, Solid Wastes Treatment & Disposal Engineering, Solid Wastes Disposal & Utilization, Environmental Quality Assessment, The Tutorials of Environmental Monitoring and Environmental Planning & Management and so on.
The division mainly carries out scientific researches on the technology & theory of the domestic waste recycling, and the harmless disposal and recycling of sludge, the harmless disposal and recycling of industrial solid & hazardous waste, the recycling of e-waste, the control of secondary pollution by solid waste. It successively undertook 5 projects of National Key Research and Development Program; 17 projects supported by National Natural Science Foundation of China; 2 projects funded by New Century Outstanding Talent Support Program of the Ministry of Education; University Ph.D. Programs Foundation of the Ministry of Education, 11 projects supported by Science and Technology Planning Project of Guangdong Province; Team Project of Guangdong Provincial Natural Science Foundation; 5 items of Natural Science Foundation of Guangdong Province; 3 projects funded by Collaborative Innovation Key Project of Guangzhou; the Major Project of Guangzhou Science and Technology Plan, the Basic Research Project of Guangzhou Science and Technology Planning, as well as projects commissioned by enterprises and institutions and numerous practical engineering projects.
The institute has published more than 400 papers in well-known academic journals in domestic and overseas, including Angewandte Chemie-International Edition, Applied Catalysis B: Environmental, Water Research, Resources, Conservation and Recycling, Waste Management, Journal of Hazardous Materials, Chemical Engineering Journal, Bioresource Technology, Biosensors and Bioelectronics, Environmental Science, Journal of Environmental Science, Environmental Science of China and so on. Furthermore, it has been awarded one international PCT patent and more than 40 national invention patents. The institute has the first prize of Natural Science of The Ministry of Education, the first prize of Natural Science in Guangdong Province, the second prize of Patent of The Ministry of Education, the Excellent Patent award in Guangdong Province, the second prize of Science and Technology of Guangdong Province, the second prize of Teaching Achievement in Guangdong Province (2 items) and other scientific awards. The institute also has published treatise including Functional Clay Minerals & Pollution Control, Anion Clay Intercalation Layer Construction & Environmental Remediation, Clay mineral materials & environmental remediation, Research on Energy Conservation & Environmental Protection Industry and the Industrial Promotion Policy of Guangdong Province, Research on Environmental Effects of the Industrial Spatial Evolution, etc..
