Zhong Wenye, a 2017 undergraduate in the School of Environment and Energy of South China University of Technology, was admitted to the comprehensive evaluation of Guangdong Province and was rated as the top ten “three good" student model of South China University of Technology from 2019 to 2020. The comprehensive test and intellectual education majors ranked first, including 39 courses with full grade points, minor in finance, and won national scholarships for two consecutive years; Won 9 competition awards in total, and published patents as the first inventor; As the head of student organization, he participated in the voluntary service such as epidemic prevention and Internet plus. He was awarded the outstanding communist Youth League member in Guangdong.

All-round player, having multiple times the amount of learning

Zhong Wenye knows that his starting point is not high. Only by redoubling his efforts can he find the right pace. When others study, he is studying; When others rest, he will go to the library and laboratory, "sometimes after class at 10:40, when you don't know where to go, I will find an empty classroom and continue to study." In addition to his major courses, he majored in finance with a double degree to broaden his knowledge.

Doubling the learning task is not without pressure. Since time is not enough, efficiency does matter. Zhong Wenye would try to balance the time for learning and review of the two majors, absorb knowledge in class as much as possible, and spend more time memorizing after class. "I always believe that diligence can make up for weakness, and efforts will pay off." At the undergraduate stage, Zhong Wenye ranked first in his major, achieved full marks in 39 courses and won national scholarships twice.

As a competition expert in the eyes of students, Zhong Wenye won 9 awards from the winner of energy conservation and emission reduction competition, the second prize of American College Students' mathematical modeling competition to the gold medal of youth creativity competition. Zhong Wenye was most impressed when he participated in the mathematical modeling competition for American college students for the first time. "We have a closed discussion around one problem. When all our attention is focused on it, I feel very happy."

"What's learned from books is superficial after all.It's crucial to have it personally tested somehow." From the beginning of freshman year, Zhong Wenye entered the laboratory and started the exploration on the road of scientific research. In the two-year SRP student scientific research project, he continued to learn, explore and accumulate experience, served as the project leader in the innovation training of college students in Guangdong Province, and published the patent as the first inventor. In his opinion, scientific research is a process of accumulation and development. He is still on the starting line and needs to stand firm and move forward step by step.

"Long march and relay": learn to do one thing well

SCUT is an inclusive and diverse place not just for learning. In Zhong Wenye's eyes, SCUT is not only an academic palace, but also brings itself a broad stage.

"In the University, I was lucky to stay in the Youth League Committee of the college. I have gained a lot in the past three years." From the member of the Youth League Committee of the College of environment and energy, to the director of the Organization Department, to the Deputy Secretary of the Youth League Committee, from initially sorting out the League member data, organizing the college activities, to coordinating the work of the Youth League Committee, Zhong Wenye learned to do everything in an orderly manner under various deadline pressures.

The most unforgettable thing is to participate in the red classic interpretation competition for two consecutive years. "During the preparation period, the time was very limited. The competition was one day away from the college's' environmental protection clothing design and interpretation Competition '. I had four exams and Cross School minor courses in a week. At that time, there was not enough time, but everyone tacitly contributed their rest time and tried to do it well." Finally, from the Sound of Horses' Hooves in 2018 to the Eternal Monument in 2019, from the second prize to the first prize, the team handed over amazing answer sheet in the long march.

The experience has made me a more cheerful, rigorous and serious person. Along the way, the escort of classmates, friends and teachers made Zhong Wenye more grateful. Zhong Wenye is still a part-time counselor of the college and continues to share his exploration and experience on the way of growth with his younger brothers and sisters.

Volunteer service, dedicated youth is the most beautiful

Zhong Wenye has been warming the people around him during his youth. In 2020, when COVID-19 came, Zhong Wenye did not stop doing voluntary work during lockdown. On the eve of the Spring Festival, he participated in the volunteer activity of Wuhan for material sorting; In February, Zhong Wenye joined the pioneer post of community Party members to participate in body temperature measurement and personnel registration.

"At that time, everyone was working with high intensity. Although there was not much communication, I really felt the power of an ordinary Chinese. Up to now, Zhong Wenye has accumulated 225 hours of volunteer service, won the star volunteer and was rated as advanced individual in social practice for two consecutive years; In July 2019, he participated in the volunteer service of World Youth Environmental Protection Exchange Conference and International Youth Environmental Forum as a team leader; In the Sixth China International Internet plus College Students' innovation and entrepreneurship competition, Zhong Wenye, as the volunteer leader of the higher education forum, was selected as an excellent volunteer by the organizing committee.
