The Guangdong Tourism Strategy and Policy Research Center of SCUT (TSP) at South China University of Technology was established in December 2017, with Professor Wu Zhicai from the Department of Tourism Management serving as the center director. The center is a provincial-level scientific research platform jointly established by South China University of Technology and the Guangdong Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism, and is now a social science research base in Guangdong Province. In 2019, it was officially included in the China Think Tank Index (CTTI) and is currently the only cultural and tourism think tank platform in Guangdong Province that has been selected.


The center adheres to the concept of research and application, innovation leading, and focuses on scientific research and decision-making consulting services in areas such as rural revitalization and poverty reduction through cultural tourism, digital rural areas and governance innovation, and the integration of comprehensive tourism and cultural tourism. Since its establishment, the center has served the national strategy and actively played a role as a think tank in the planning and decision-making consulting of rural revitalization strategies. In recent years, it has obtained more than 10 national and provincial leadership approval articles; More than 20 achievements have been adopted by provincial, municipal, and departmental departments; Won the first prize of the 9th Guangdong Provincial Excellent Achievement Award in Philosophy and Social Sciences; The achievements of the precision poverty alleviation project have been awarded as one of the top ten typical projects for precision poverty alleviation in universities directly under the Ministry of Education and one of the top ten excellent typical cases for tourism assistance in universities by the Ministry of Education. The members of the center have undertaken more than 60 national and provincial-level vertical projects, and have published over 100 academic papers in journals such as SCl, SSCI, IEEE, Pattern recognition, EI, etc; Published nearly 10 academic works and won multiple awards for academic works. The relevant achievements have been published in more than 20 newspapers and magazines such as People's Daily, Guangming Daily, and Southern Daily, generating a positive social impact.
