Unit Overview

South China University of Technology is located in Guangzhou and is a national key university directly under the Ministry of Education. It was awarded the first National Civilized Campus award. The school has a long history and can be traced back to the establishment of the Guangdong Provincial First Class Industrial School (known as the Red Armored Workers in history) in 1918; Formally established during the adjustment period of national higher education institutions in 1952, it is one of the Four Great Engineering Colleges of New China; In 1960, it became a national key university; In 1981, it was approved by the State Council as one of the first units to confer doctoral and master's degrees; In 1993, it pioneered the joint construction of departments and provinces in universities across the country; Entered the 211 Project in 1995; Entered the ranks of the 985 Project in 2001; In 2017, it entered the ranks of Class A universities in the Double First Class construction, and in 2020, it entered the top 200 in the World University Academic Ranking of Shanghai Soft Science. The Department of Tourism Management is an independent secondary unit department of South China University of Technology, established in 2004. It is one of the earliest departments to offer international joint training programs at South China University of Technology, with outstanding achievements in cultivating innovative talents. The undergraduate majors of Tourism Management and Exhibition Economy and Management have both been approved as national first-class undergraduate demonstration major construction sites. The two majors ranked 5th and 3rd respectively in the 2022 Soft Science Professional Evaluation in China. In 2022, the Tourism Management major passed the United Nations World Tourism Organization Tourism Education Quality Certification.

Our department currently has a complete talent training system of full-time undergraduate master doctoral students, and has established the earliest doctoral program in the field of event research, master's program in digital cultural tourism and exhibition engineering management, and master's program in rural revitalization in China. We currently have research platforms such as the Guangdong Key Laboratory of Philosophy and Social Sciences for Digital Countryside and Sustainable Development of Culture and Tourism, Guangzhou New Think Tank of Guangzhou Institute of Urban Rural Integration Development, Guangdong Tourism Strategy and Policy Research Center, Guangdong Engineering Technology Research Center for Rural Revitalization and Tourism Big Data, and Guangzhou Cultural and Tourism Integration Development Research Base. In the past five years, we have undertaken more than 60 scientific research projects, including the National Natural Science Foundation and the National Social Science Foundation. Published over 100 high-level academic papers in important domestic and international journals such as Tourism Journal, Geographical Journal, and Int J Tourism Res. Actively serving national strategic needs such as the Greater Bay Area, rural revitalization, digital China, and cultural power, we focus on strengthening industry university research cooperation, establishing practical teaching or research bases with well-known large domestic and foreign tourism and exhibition enterprises. More than 50 decision-making consulting reports have been adopted by national, provincial, municipal governments, and enterprises, generating extensive and far-reaching social impact. At the same time, we have cultivated a group of outstanding talents for Guangdong and even the whole country, becoming an important base in South China that integrates teaching, research, think tanks, and social services.

Recruitment of Teaching and Research Talents

1、 Recruitment positions

Job types: Associate Professor, Associate Professor, and Permanent Professor

The school implements a Tenure Track teaching and research personnel appointment mechanism that is in line with international standards. Our unit is recruiting talents with backgrounds in tourism innovation and service management, digital cultural tourism and big data management, agriculture, rural issues and rural revitalization, international exhibition and event management, cultural industry and cultural creativity, and other related disciplines from around the world to join us. We are committed to the interdisciplinary and integrated development of tourism management.

2、 Job requirements

(1) Basic conditions

Passionate about higher education and scientific research, with good ideological and political qualities, upright conduct, excellent teacher ethics, and rigorous academic style; Physically and mentally healthy, with a good spirit of cooperation; Foreign talents should abide by Chinese laws and regulations, identify with China's educational policies and the educational philosophy of socialist universities with Chinese characteristics. Generally, one should have a doctoral degree.

(2) Research work experience and academic level conditions

 

1. Appointment of Associate Professor

(1) The age is generally not more than 35 years old, and the maximum age is not more than 40 years old.

(2) Should have a doctoral degree, and after graduation, generally should have no less than 2 years of research work experience in domestic and foreign universities, research institutions, enterprises, etc.

(3) In academic research, there are innovative ideas, clear research directions, the ability to independently carry out scientific research work, and good development potential, with a solid foundation in scientific research.

2. Admitted Professor

(1) The age generally does not exceed 45 years old.

(2) Should have a doctoral degree. Overseas talents should generally have no less than 3 years of research experience and outstanding academic performance overseas after obtaining a doctoral degree; Domestic talents should generally hold senior professional and technical positions.

(3) The academic level requires the ability to independently develop an academic direction, with strong innovation capabilities and great potential for academic development, and to achieve landmark achievements recognized by peers both domestically and internationally.

3. Long term Professor

(1) The age generally does not exceed 50 years old.

(2) Should have a doctoral degree. Overseas talents should generally hold the position of associate professor or above in overseas universities, or hold equivalent positions in international enterprises and institutions; Domestic talents should generally hold senior professional and technical positions.

(3) Conduct original research or key technology research in the field of this discipline, and achieve significant landmark results, or make important achievements and contributions in serving national strategies and economic and social development.

*In terms of age or work experience requirements for applying for the above types of positions, for those with particularly outstanding academic levels (including recent doctoral graduates), they may be appropriately relaxed depending on the situation.

3、 Welfare and salary

1. Employed according to career establishment. Associate professors with the academic title of Associate Researcher or Associate Professor are appointed as supervisors for master's or doctoral students, ensuring graduate student performance and supporting independent academic research; Associate professors and above with the academic title of researcher or professor shall be employed as doctoral supervisors to ensure graduate student performance, support the recruitment of postdoctoral fellows, and form academic teams.

2. Provide sufficient research start-up funds based on disciplinary differences.

3. Provide competitive salaries based on corresponding positions in top international universities; For high-end leading talents or outstanding young talents, their salaries can be negotiated on a case by case basis.

4. 3、 Recruitment requirements
