​Chinese and Russian Universities Deepen Cooperation to Explore New Paths for Urban Development and Talent Cultivation

On the afternoon of April 21, 2025, a delegation from the National Research University Higher School of Economics (HSE University) of Russia, led by Evgeny Mikhaylenko, Dean of the Faculty of Urban and Regional Development, Victoria Khomich, Vice Dean for International Affairs, and Ruslan Goncharov, Head of the Vysokovsky Institute of Urbanism, visited the Wushan Campus of South China University of Technology (SCUT). Li Wenbin(Vice Dean of the School of Public Administration), Yu Feng(Deputy Director of the Office of International Exchange and Cooperation), Zhao Miaoxi(Director of the Department of Urban Planning, School of Architecture), He Liyun( Administrative Vice Dean of the School of Economics and Finance), and Qin Xiaoran(Associate Professor of the School of Civil Engineering and Transportation of SCUT) attended the meeting. The two sides held in-depth discussions on exchanges and cooperation in multiple fields.

At the beginning of the meeting, the two sides conducted courtesy exchanges. Deputy Director Yu Feng and Dean Evgeny Mikhaylenko respectively introduced the educational characteristics, disciplinary advantages and current status of international cooperation of the two universities. Both sides highly recognized each other's academic accumulation and practical achievements in urban planning, public administration and other fields, laying a solid foundation for follow-up cooperation.

In the cooperation discussion session, the two sides held practical communications focusing on four core areas. For joint events, both sides proposed to build a platform for teacher-student exchanges through academic forums, seminars, student workshops and other forms to promote idea collision and experience sharing. In terms of project cooperation in urban planning, the two sides planned to share practical cases and explore the possibility of jointly launching consulting projects around hot topics such as urban-rural governance and sustainable development. In scientific research cooperation, preliminary intentions were reached on jointly applying for international research projects, sharing research resources, and exploring innovations in social research methods to boost the research capacity of both sides. In educational cooperation, the two sides held in-depth consultations on the joint master's program in urban futurology, exchanging views on key issues such as curriculum design, credit recognition, and teacher-student exchange visits, which is expected to provide cross-cultural and high-level academic training opportunities for students of both universities.

  This meeting built an efficient communication bridge between the two universities and clarified the directions and paths of cooperation. It is of great significance for deepening educational and research exchanges between Chinese and Russian universities and promoting the development of relevant disciplines. In the next step, the two sides will further refine the cooperation plans, promote the transformation of cooperation intentions into tangible results, and contribute to cultivating international talents and serving global urban development.
