On December 14, 2023, Ms. Tong Yuying, professor of the Department of Sociology of the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Assistant Dean of the School of Social Sciences and Director of the Chinese Family Research Center, was invited to share her thoughts on research methods with graduate students in the School of Public Administration. The lecture was presided over by Professor Huang Yan. Professor Yu Dengke, vice dean of School of Public Administration, Chen Dan, postdoctoral fellow, and some graduate students attended the meeting.
At the beginning of the lecture, the professor threw out questions related to what is research and what is social research. The students present responded positively and explained their understanding of the concept of research. While affirming the students' answers, Professor Tong further elaborated the concept and connotation of research and social research in academic theory.
During the sharing process, the professor mainly focused on several important research methodology questions such as where does the research question come from, what method is suitable, the empirical research cycle of the research process and how to conduct research design, and combined with her own research experience to answer the relevant questions in the form of cases.
The teachers and students participating in the lecture gained a lot, and the lecture was successfully concluded in the warm applause of the teachers and students.
