On April 28, the SCUT First Humanities & Social Sciences Workshop on Academic Publication, also named as “Academic Journals Talks” Forum, was held in the Wushan Campus. MS. TAO Shaojing, Deputy Secretary of the CPC SCUT Committee, was present at the forum and made the welcome speech. There were around 200 people attended, including the heads of the Office of Social Science Administration, School of Public Administration, School of Marxism, and other faculty members and students.

MS. TAO Shaojing pointed out that, since the 18th CPC National Congress, the party and the government has attached much more importance to the development of philosophy and social science, and thus introduced a series of guidelines and principles for promoting the prosperity and development. However, more close cooperation with periodicals and publishers are in need for promoting deepening reform in the field of philosophy and social sciences. The invited speakers now and here are all experts from periodicals and publishing agencies with rich experience in academic publication and dissemination. Hopefully, this forum will bring more new vitalities and furthermore provide a higher level academic exchange platform for promoting the development of philosophy and social science of SCUT.

The workshop was co-sponsored by the Office of Social Science Administration, the School of Public Administration and the School of Marxism, with the Research Institute of Social Policy,SCUT as a host. The editorial experts invited to made the speech included but not limited to: Deputy Editor SU Yang from Management World, Chief Editor LI Mingxia from Politics (Information Center for Social Sciences of RUC), Deputy Editor XIE Yahong from Chinese Publish Administration, Chief Editor JIANG Zhongxiao from Social Sciences in Guangdong, Director ZHU Yapeng from the Editorial Department of Journal of Public Administration, Editor ZHANG Li from Sociology – Reference Materials of RUC. Through eliciting typical case studies, the reports addressed the main issues in the process of paper writing and publishing from different aspects, winning high praised from the teachers and students.

After the lectures, teachers and students also discussed and interacted with the experts about the topics on selections of research topics, thesis writing, academic writing norms and think thank construction. The audiences expressed that this forum did offer an effective exchange platform for communicating with well-known academic journals. It is reported that this sort of humanities & social sciences workshop, in conjunction with youth academic salon and scholar forum did constitute brands-forging events series, with the purpose of building academic exchange platforms.
