Platforms Supporting the Research Center:
The Intelligent Safety and Emergency Innovation Research Center was established in May 2023 under the School of Mechanical and Automotive Engineering. It primarily relies on key scientific research platforms such as the Guangdong Provincial Collaborative Innovation Center for Work Safety Science and Technology, the Guangdong Provincial Engineering Technology Research and Development Center for Energy Saving and Control in Urban Air Conditioning, the Pearl River Delta Urban Public Safety Technology Research Center, and the Guangdong University Engineering Technology Research Center for Green Campus Energy Saving and Control.
Construction Objectives of the Research Center:
The Research Center addresses major national needs and disciplinary frontiers in the field of intelligent safety and emergency. It aims to deeply explore cutting-edge science in intelligent safety and emergency, promote related technological innovation, and is committed to enhancing intelligent accident prevention and emergency management capabilities. The Center works to shift public safety governance from rapid response to risk prevention, and from traditional disaster relief and mitigation towards sustainable development focused on resilience enhancement, risk governance, and collaborative response. It also drives original technological innovation and achievement transformation in intelligent safety and emergency sector.
Research Team, Preliminary Foundation, and Achievements:
The Research Center currently has 22 permanent members, including 11 full professors and 10 associate professors. In safety and emergency monitoring and early warning, the Center has made breakthroughs in key technologies and equipment development for disaster prevention of major oil and gas storage and transportation infrastructure. The achievements have been deployed at the South China Branch of National Petroleum and Natural Gas Pipeline Network Group and connected to five subsidiary units, assisting five large-scale oil depots in defending against natural disasters. The Center has also developed two Guangdong provincial local standards in vulnerability and resilience assessment technology, holding a leading position in China's standardization efforts. In Industrial Internet + Work Safety intelligent supervision, the Center has broken through key technologies for multi-modal data perception, hierarchical alarm/warning, and behavioral intelligent recognition. It has constructed an AI Safety Brain for industrial enterprises, enabling comprehensive work safety monitoring and supervision. The developed intelligent work safety management platform for aluminum processing (deep-well casting) enterprises has been promoted and applied in over ten companies including Guangya, Fenglu, Jianmei, and Yalu. The application results have been highly praised by leaders from competent authorities such as the Ministry of Emergency Management, the Guangdong Provincial Department of Emergency Management, and the Guangdong Provincial Department of Industry and Information Technology. The Center has played a significant role in undertaking major national strategic tasks and serving related national industries. In recent years, it has hosted and participated in more than 50 national and provincial and ministerial-level programs related to safety, including National Key Research and Development Program of China, National Science and Technology Support Program, National Natural Science Foundation of China, former State Administration of Work Safety Key Technology Science Program for Prevention of Major Accidents, Guangdong Provincial Key Research and Development Program, and Guangdong Provincial Science and Technology Plan. It has also hosted over 150 social service projects commissioned by government agencies, enterprises, and public institutions related to safety. The Center has received two Third Prizes for Work Safety Science and Technology Achievements from the former State Administration of Work Safety, two Guangdong Provincial Science and Technology Second Prizes, and two Guangdong Provincial Science and Technology Third Prizes.
