讲座内容摘要: An extensive research program in various applications in Structural and Wind Engineering is currently undertaken at Western University. The research is supported by unique infrastructure and testing facilities recently established at Western. The presentation starts by providing a quick overview about the University of Western Ontario in general the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering in particular. Two research facilities, the Insurance Lab for Better Homes and the WindEEE dome, enabling full and model scale testing of structures under various types of wind storms will be described. Two research projects currently undertaken by the presenter and his research team will be then discussed. The first project focuses on studying the behaviour of transmission line structures under downbursts and tornadoes. This is conducted as a response to the failure of a number of towers in Canada and abroad. The wind field associated with those events was developed using Computation Fluid Dynamic simulations as well as using experimental results and field observations.
教授简介: Prof. Ashraf El Damatty Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering
University of Western Ontario Prof. El Damatty's research interests lie in the general area of structural engineering. The main field of expertise is finite element analysis and structural dynamics.During the past ten years, Prof. El Damatty has developed his own computer software that can be used in performing stress analysis of various engineering problems. His research interests include the stress analysis of structures having a shell of revolution surfaces, e.g. tanks, domes, chimneys and pipes. The objective of his research is to understand the complex state of stresses developing in such structures under various environmental loads and to develop simple design procedure for these structures. His research in shell structures, especially in steel conical tanks, has gained a wide international recognition.
