报告摘要:
Spectroscopic detection of ionizing photons has widespread applications for particle physics research, nuclear threat detection and medical diagnosis. We report the development of nanocomposite scintillators for gamma photoelectric generation. High-Z nanoparticles are loaded at high concentrations to enhance the gamma cross-section, and conjugated organic luminescent compounds are investigated to boost the light yield. Factors affecting the synthesis, optical transparency in bulk solids, light yield and radiation hardness will be discussed. The nanocomposites have been further functionalized to simultaneous detect fast and thermal neutrons.
报告人简介:
Qibing Pei is Chair Professor and Director of the Institute of Applied Physics and Materials Engineering, University of Macau, and Director of the Macau Advanced Materials Center. He is a Professor Emeritus of Materials Science and Engineering, University of California, Los Angeles. His research focuses on synthetic polymers and composites for electronic, electromechanical, and photonic applications. He has authored over 250 peer-reviewed journal articles and holds 47 granted U.S. patents. His current work centers on dielectric polymer actuation, optical modulation, electrocaloric cooling, and scintillation. He received his B.S. in Chemistry from Nanjing University and Ph.D. from the Institute of Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences. He completed postdoctoral training at Linköping University in Sweden and held research positions at UNIAX Corporation (DuPont Displays) and SRI International. He is a Fellow of SPIE and was honored with the SPIE Smart Materials and Structures Lifetime Achievement Award in 2023.
