摘要:
A frequently overlooked alternative to the organic light-emitting device (OLED) is light-emitting electrochemical cell (LEC). It is similar to a OLED in structure, but in LEC devices the light-emitting polymer (or small-molecule compound) is blended with an electrolyte. The mobile ions in the electrolyte rearrange when a potential is applied between the electrodes, forming high charge-density layers at each electrode interface, allowing efficient and balanced injection of electrons and holes into the polymer. It is particularly noteworthy that efficient injection is possible regardless of the work function of the electrodes, as exemplified by the use of stable materials for both cathode and anode in LEC devices. Recently, the LEC devices have demonstrated distinct improvements in performance, both from an operational lifetime and from an efficiency perspective.
In this talk I will briefly introduce the concept and work mechanism of LEC, and present our work in these fields, including fixed organic p-n junction in LEC device, high-efficient and long lifetime LEC device, white LEC device using blend polymer and single polymer as the emitter, functional and solution-processed trilayer electrochemical device, and first sample utilizing the fluorescent small-molecule compounds as emitter in LEC device.
