Synchrotron radiation is an excellent probe for studying functional materials. High flux and high resolution beam of synchrotron source gives us information that would not be possible from laboratory instruments. Here we describe a collection of applications is from the powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD), and small angle X-ray scattering  (SAXS) measurements, which have been used to investigate gas absorbent materials, hydrogen storage materials, battery materials et.al. 
Combining synchrotron radiation with various sample environment setups, such as capillary flow cells, we are able to demonstrate the power of the method. In-situ PXRDmeasurements have been conducted to discover a “molecular trapdoor” mechanism for exclusive gas discrimination. PXRD also demonstrates it as an outstanding tool to reveal the novel metal organic framework (MOF) structures and monitor the progress of a new acid solvent synergistic ligand exchange (ASSLE) synthesis method. The adsorption properties of the daughter material suggest a superior gas separation performance to the parent material. In-situ studies on MgNi alloys for hydrogen storage applications are presented. With alloys of optimal composition, it has been shown that the reversible storage of 6.5–7 wt.% H2 is possible at a rate of reaction that is realistic for industrial applications. At last, some in-situ studies of novel battery cathode materials are presented.
报告人简介:
 顾勤奋博士,目前任职于Australian Synchrotron(澳洲光源) 高级研究员,同时在墨尔本大学化学系兼职研究员职位。顾博士于2008年获得瑞士苏黎世联邦理工大学博士学位。顾博士利用同步辐射衍射和能谱来研究材料结构和性能,特别是在探索能源材料的机理方面,取得许多重要成果。他在晶体学,材料学和纳米技术上有着超过10年的研究经验。 他的主要研究领域包括锂纳电池材料,储氢材料,分子筛气体分离。他参与了多项大型试验设备装置的设计及安装,包括高温高压试验装置,2D的X射线探测器,同步辐射光路系统,全自动样品更换系统,等等。顾博士作为主要申请人之一近年来获得的澳洲国家重大项目经费有ARC LIEF, Facilities for Spectroscopy and Diffraction at High Pressures, 2010,ARC Discovery (DP140102858), Exploration of highly regenerable boron-nitrogen based hydrides for hydrogen storage, 2014 等。他累计在“JOURNAL OF THE AMERICAN C
