Abstract:
In this talk, we will present asymptotic analysis of the PNP and a modified PNP systems. We show that computational costs can be greatly reduced with the reduced electroneutral model of the PNP system. For a modified PNP system, we show that selectivity of the KcsA channel can be explained quantitatively using the asymptotic solution. In addition, a hybrid asymptotic-numerical method can be used to overcome the computational difficulty associated with large values of the fixed charge. Applications of the reduced PNP will be briefly discussed, if time permits.
