Title: Nonlinear Singular Elliptic Equations

Time: Wed, May.22, 2019, AM:15:30-16:30

Location: Room 3A02, Building No.37, Wushan Campus

Abstract:

We consider a Dirichlet problem driven by the sum of a p-Laplacian with p>2 and of a Laplacian. Such an equation is known as a (p, 2)-equation. The fact that the differential operator is not homogeneous is a source of difficulties in the analysis of the equation. The source of the problem (right hand side) consists of two terms. One is singular and a particular case is u^{-\gamma} with 0<\gamma<1 which we encounter in the literature. The second term is a caratheodory function f(z,x) which is (n-1)-superlinear near infinity but need not satisfy the usual in such cases Ambrosetti-Rabinowitz condition. We point out that the source of the problem is nonparametric and this is an additional difficulty in the analysis of the equation. Using variational tools based on the critical point theory together with truncation and comparison techniques, we show that the problem has two positive smooth solutions.
