Tomorrow my SCUT celebrates me!

Aloha, a cordial welcome to your surfing on the Website of the School of Foreign Languages(SFL), South China University of Technology (SCUT), Guangzhou.

TheSFL as one of the three indispensable teaching departments was established at the very right time when South China University of Technology was founded in 1952. With a history of more than 60 years, the SFL has successively brought BA, MA, and MTI programs into a full play to cultivate tens of thousands of graduates who used to work or are currently working in fields like international trade, international affairs, education, technology, science and the like, which adds to the reputation of SCUT.

To my best knowledge, the SFL is unanimously recognized as one of the pioneers dedicated to interdisciplinary education of English professionals with either BA or MA degrees. Its contribution to the reform of College English Teaching is also universally acknowledged in China. Up to this moment, the SFL has profitably obtained a lot of research achievements in Linguistics & Applied Linguistics, Foreign Literature, Translation Studies, and Comparative Literature & Cross-cultural Communication. Its stylistics studies, among other things, prominently stands out in the fields of linguistics & applied linguistics in the country.

The principle of student-centered education is pervasively adhered in the SFL, and the notion of international education for a broad vision is cheerfully embraced by both the staff and the students. Right, the vigor and rigor of the SFL is fully embodied in teaching, academic research, student affairs, and our life.

Don’t hesitate to tell me what should be properly done for the SFL future. There is no doubt that more great efforts should be done to make everything on the right track. We are currently engaged in the construction of a PD program in the coming year, which plays a crucial role in our work. We should join every effort to access our students to a higher level of linguistics and literature studies.

“Today I honor my SCUT, and tomorrow my SCUT celebrates me!” With this, every one of the SFL is trying to realize their China Dream one way or another.
