报告摘要:

Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) have been widely detected in aquatic systems. Yet, cost-effective technologies for degradation of PFAS have been lacking. In this study, we developed and tested an innovative “Concentrate-&-Destroy” technology for more cost-effective degradation of PFAS from water. We synthesized, characterized and tested several adsorptive photocatalysts based on commercially available activated carbon (AC) and TiO2, namely, iron-doped, AC-supported titanate nanotubes (Fe/TNTs@AC), gallium-doped AC-supported titanate nanotubes (Ga/TNTs@AC), carbon sphere (CS) modified iron-oxide (FeO/CS), and CS-modified bismuth phosphate (BiOHP/CS). All the materials were able to rapidly (<10 min) adsorb PFOA, PFOS and GenX. Subsequently, when subjected to UV or solar light, the pre-concentrated PFAS were effectively degraded and defluorinated. Upon photodegradation, the materials can be reused in multiple cycles of adsorption and photodegradation without chemical regeneration.
