For his PhD he moved to Queen Mary College, University of London and studied the solid state physics of polymers. His PhD was awarded in 1991. He then moved to University College London and worked with Prof. Sally Price and Prof Richard Catlow on computer simulation of organic crystal structures. In 1994 he was appointed as a Principle Research Scientist at the Leverhulme Centre for Catalysis in Liverpool University. 报告摘要:
In the UK safe working practice in the laboratory is the most important aspect of all the practical work we do. Before starting any new procedure students and researchers consider the risks involved in all aspects of the work. This includes hazards presented by reagents used or products made and the safe operation procedures for all equipment that is needed to perform the experiment. This is written down on standard forms and must be signed by student and supervisor before proceeding. Regular lab meetings are used to discuss the general operation of laboratory areas with all students and researchers able to discuss improvements in procedures. To assess our safety the government provides guidelines under the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) regulations which will be discussed in the lecture.
