报告摘要:

Biofilms are probably the oldest and surely the most successful form of life. They exist virtually everywhere on Earth. They have a huge impact on human health, the environment, energy, agriculture, and the economics. Biofilms are composed of aggregates of microbes embedded in the matrix consisting of extracellular polymeric substances (EPS). EPS are the biomaterials produced by the bacteria, consisting of polysaccharides, proteins, and DNA. It is the major component of biofilms. It has been increasingly recognized that EPS play a fundamental role in defining the biofilm properties, many of which awaited to be discovered. So EPS are perhaps the most successful biomaterials made by Nature. Nevertheless, little is known about it. In this lecture, Prof. Cai will talk about our research related to biofilms and EPS, involving surface chemistry, a bit synthesis, characterization using mass spectrometry, and potential medical application of biofilms against biofilms. 

 

 

报告人简介:

蔡成志教授在华南理工大学化学系获得学士(1986)和硕士(1989)学位;1996年在瑞士苏黎世联邦理工学院获得有机化学博士学位;19961999年在瑞士苏黎世联邦理工学院量子电子研究所从事博士后研究。2000年至今历任美国休斯顿大学化学系助理教授、副教授和教授(终生)。曾获得美国国家科学基金会职业奖和苏黎世联邦理工学院奖章等奖项。主持和参与了多项美国国家科学基金会(NSF)和美国国家健康研究院(NIH)研究项目。在Nature Mater, Adv. Mater, J. Am. Chem. Soc, Chem. Sci., BiomaterialsJ. Catal. 等刊物上发表论文80多篇,授权美国专利5项。主要研究兴趣有细菌生物膜、金属催化有机合成、有机薄膜、表面生物功能化、介孔硅生物医学材料和生物偶联点击化学等。
