To thoroughly implement the spirit of the Third Plenary Session of the 20th CPC Central Committee, focus on the provincial 1310 specific deployment, actively respond to the High-Quality Development Project for Hundreds of Counties, Thousands of Towns, and 10 Thousands of Villages, and advance the Double-Hundred Action, on January 16, a delegation led by Zheng Wenjie, Party Committee Secretary of the School of Automation Science and Engineering, and Shen Hongyu, Deputy Party Committee Secretary, visited Heshan to carry out the Big Hands Holding Small Hands, Love Transmitted to Heshan Double Hundred Theme Activity.
The delegation included Wu Yufeng, a full-time staff member of the university’s Youth League Committee; Lu Jieying, Deputy Director of the Experimental Center of School of Automation and Engineering, counselor Li Wang, Xie Xianfei, founder of Guangdong ASVRobot Co., Ltd., and student representatives. The event received strong support from all parties, including Feng Yizhu, Deputy Secretary of the Heshan Municipal Education Work Committee, Yang Jie, leader of the Double Hundred Action Heshan Service Team; Wu Xiaomin, deputy leader; Yang Xiaoyan, Deputy Director of the Heshan Teacher Development Center; Li Zhiqiu, Director of Gonghe Town; Chen Yuansen, Principal of Gonghe Town Central Primary School; Yao Chunbai, Principal of Heshan Industrial City First Primary School; Guo Dongjiu, Vice Principal of Gonghe Middle School; and 40 student representatives from Heshan Industrial City First Primary School.
The activity aimed to leverage the college’s academic strengths to inject new momentum into Heshan’s educational development and regional revitalization. Through the Big Hands Holding Small Hands model, it bridged high-quality university resources with local needs, using compassion as a bond to transmit knowledge and hope. This effort supports Heshan in achieving stable progress on its high-quality development path and contributes wisdom and strength to the provincial strategic plan and the Double Hundred Action goals.

Launched in November 2021, the Big Hands Holding Small Hands volunteer service initiative initially provided a two-year pilot program offering online academic assistance to primary students in Kongmei Village, Jieyang City. The project pairs college student volunteers with pupils for one-on-one tutoring. Recognized as a Key Cultivation Project and Sustained Support Project in the Yi Miao Plan Guangdong Volunteer Service Organization Growth Support Initiative and Volunteer Service Project Competition, it has received widespread acclaim from local teachers, parents, and students.
We hope to continuously expand and upgrade the 'Big Hands Holding Small Hands' project in Heshan, providing more personalized and targeted support for children’s academic and holistic development, said Zheng Wenjie during her speech at Heshan Industrial City First Primary School. She emphasized that the college would tailor its tutoring models and explore innovative approaches based on Heshan’s practical needs to ensure the project’s success. Feng Yizhu extended a warm welcome to South China University of Technology on behalf of Heshan’s Education Work Committee, while Yang Jie pledged robust support for the collaboration to enhance Heshan’s intellectual empowerment.


Supported by the university’s Youth League Committee and Lenovo Group, the event also integrated the 10th season of the Beautiful Holiday Warm Public Welfare Activity for University Students. Lenovo donated Care Packages filled with stationery and motivational notes. With warm wishes like Happy New Year, kids! and Study hard! the delegation handed out the packages, symbolizing the unity of university, enterprise, and local efforts to bolster Heshan’s educational advancement.


A follow-up discussion further solidified plans for implementing the Big Hands Holding Small Hands project, including activity formats, target groups, and expansion strategies. Both sides also tentatively agreed to collaborate on Technology into Schools and Summer Science Camp programs, aligning visions for future initiatives.

The delegation also conducted a Visiting Enterprises and Expanding Internships initiative, touring Guangdong Taizheng Intelligent Equipment Co., Ltd. and Heshan Guojinanlian Motorcycle Industrial Co., Ltd. to explore industrial innovation needs. Xie Xianfei, a 2023 Ph.D. candidate and gold medalist at the China International College Students’ Innovation Competition, shared insights: Our expertise in new energy vehicle component testing can be applied to motorcycle parts. We plan to form a 'Hundred-Thousand-Ten Thousand Project' task force to tackle complex industrial challenges for Heshan enterprises.


Organized under the guidance of the Double-Hundred Action Heshan Service Team and the university’s Youth League Committee, this activity exemplified the college’s commitment to leveraging its strengths for rural revitalization. Moving forward, the college will deepen its collaboration with Heshan, aligning university capabilities with Heshan’s needs to drive the Double Hundred Action forward and contribute automation expertise to the region’s high-quality development.
