In the morning of December 10th, 2015, Professor Tian-You Chai, who is an academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering, has been invited to give a lecture in School of Automation Science and Engineering. Professor Chai gave us a brilliant academic report entitled “Introduction to Automation”. 
       Professor Chai is also the Director of Automation Research Center in Northeastern University, Director of Domestic Key Laboratory of Process Industry Integrated Automation, Director of the Department of Information Science of National Natural Science Foundation. He had been the council member of International Federation of Automatic Control (IFAC) and the chairman of the manufacture and bearing technical coordination committee in IFAC. Professor Chai has been long engaged in complicated industry process control, optimization and the basic research and engineering of integrated automation.
       During the lecture, Professor Chai triggered us about the subject through introducing that automation has been used in our daily life, and told us the connotation of automation technology, its developing history and its trend. To give us a better understanding, Prof. Chai introduced a liquid level control system of single tank to reveal the development of automation system. Besides, Prof. Chai gave the students a detailed introduction about importance of automation technology, its objectives and key foundation based on his experience in studying complicated industry control. He brought us a new understanding about automation.
      The lecture presented a different view about automation and produced a far-reaching impact on students.
