The School of Automation Science and Engineering at South China University of Technology focuses on discipline development, talent training, scientific research, and social service. It has formed a clear and distinctive development path. The School was among the first in China to receive authorization to award both master’s and doctoral degrees in 1981, and in 2003 it was approved to confer doctoral degrees in the first-level discipline of Control Science and Engineering. It has built a complete education system covering undergraduate, master’s, doctoral, and postdoctoral levels.
The School has a strong faculty team with 72 full-time teachers, more than 75% of whom are professors or associate professors. Most faculty members hold doctoral degrees and have overseas study or research experience. The School has eight provincial- and ministerial-level research platforms, one National Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center, and nine industry–university joint laboratories. It also supports the international academic journal Control Theory & Applications.
The School focuses on emerging fields such as artificial intelligence and intelligent manufacturing, and actively promotes cooperation between industry, universities, and research institutes. Students have achieved excellent results in major science and technology competitions. Over the years, the School has educated many outstanding graduates who have become academic leaders, entrepreneurs, and senior managers in well-known companies.
