Lecture on “Big Data Analytics – Innovation and Practices” was held successfully

On the afternoon of May 5, 2005, a lecture entitled “Big Data Analytics – Innovation and Practices” was held successfully in Building 3. The lecture was given by Longbing Cao, who is a professor of information technology at the Faculty of Engineering and IT, University of Technology Sydney, Australia; and the founding Director of the university’s research institute: Advanced Analytics Institute. Prof. Yuanqing Li, the Dean of School of Automation Science and Engineering, hosted the lecture.

Before the lecture, Prof. Li gave a brief introduction to Prof. Cao. According to the introduction, we knew that Prof. Cao had advanced research experiences in data mining, machine learning, artificial intelligence, multi-objective system and so on.
Firstly, Prof. Cao concisely summarized the challenges and opportunities in currently explosive growth of interest in big data of many fields. Then, he explained some basic concepts in the field of big data and introduced his team’s research results over the years. What’s more, Prof. Cao introduced the effects of big data on innovation and practices with practical cases.
The lecture aroused the students’ interest in big data analysis.
