SELECTED RESEARCH TOPICS

1. Underwater Acoustic Communications (NSFC Grant 2010, 2014, SCUT Grant 2012, 2014)

▪ Studying the estimation and equalization for underwater acoustic time-varying channels

▪ Developing a practical OFDM implementation prototype with PC, ADC, DAC and hydrophones based on the software-defined radio techniques

▪ Papers are published on WUWNet 2013, 2014, IEEE TCOM 2013

2. Error Probability Analysis for Cross-QAM in Fading Channels (NSFC Grant 2010)

▪ Deduced the closed-form expression for the exact SER of Cross-QAM in AWGN

▪ Obtained the exact expressions of SER and BER in mu-eta fading channels with MRC reception

▪ Papers are published on WPC 2013, IEEE TVT 2011, IEEE CL 2010, EURASIP JWCN 2010

3. Resource Allocation Algorithm in OFDMA (NSFGD Grant 2009)

▪ Proposed a proportional rate greedy algorithm and 3 low-complexity ones for fair scheduling

▪ Papers are published on IEEE CL 2011 and IEEE-TVT 2012

▪ Method is applied to Chinese patent pending 2011

4. Spectrum Sensing and Physical Layer Security in Cognitive Radio (NSFGD Grant 2009)

▪ Simplified the performance analysis and the threshold calculation of the energy detection

▪ Discussed the optimization to the cooperative sensing with semi-definite programming (SDP)

▪ Studied the optimization to the security problems of the secondary user with SDP

▪ Papers are published on J. Electr. & Inf. Tech.(Chinese) 2011 and  J. SCUT 2011

5. Peak-to-Average Power Ratio (PAPR) Problem of OFDM (NSFGD Grant 2006)

Distribution of the PAPR: Derived the PAPR distribution of DMT and OFDM signals with extreme value theory (IET-EL 2003, ICCCAS 2006)

PAPR Reduction Method: Proposed a distribution-transform-based PAPR reduction method to transforms the amplitude distribution of the OFDM signal into the standard power distributions, which has very low PAPR (Chinese J. Electronics.2006, ICCT 2006)

Power Efficiency Optimization: Suggested an analysis formwork to address the tradeoff between PAPR reduction and BER increase (ICCT 2006, ICCCAS 2006, WiCom 2007)

Computation of the PAPR of OFDM Signal: (ICASSP 2003, ICCT 2003, J. Electr. (China) 2005)

- Obtained the accurate PAPR value for small N by a root finding of a set of Chebyshev polynomials

- Proposed a precise and fast PAPR value computation procedure for arbitrary N by using oversampling IFFT and chirp z-transform
