为促进软物质科学与技术的发展,增进软物质领域学者之间的交流,分享软物质研究最新研究进展,华南理工大学计划在11月2日,举行“2018软物质国际学术交流会”(2018 Soft Matter International Seminar)。会议由华南软物质科学与技术高等研究院具体承办,共邀请到来自美国、英国、日本、加拿大等国家和地区的10位国际知名学者就软物质领域最新研究进展做主题报告,并与广大师生展开学术交流。

1.Prof. Bernard LOTZ, Institute Charles Sadron (CNRS)
Bernard Lotz obtained his Ph.D. at Université Louis Pasteur in 1968. From 1982 to 2004, he was the director of the National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS, French). Currently, he is the Director of research at the CNRS and emeritus professor at the Institute Charles Sadron. His research interests focus on 1) structure and morphology of biopolymers, 2) crystal structure, morphology, phase transitions, crystallization and melting of synthetic polymers, and 3) Major investigation techniques. He has published more than 290 papers, book chapters and reviews.
2.Prof. Stephen Z. D. CHENG, South China University of Technology , The University of Akron
Professor Cheng received his Ph.D. degree at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute at Troy, New York, in 1985. His research interests are in the area of chemistry, physics, and engineering of polymers and advanced functional materials including ordered structure, morphology, phase transition thermodynamics, kinetics, and molecular motions. His recent interests in particular are focusing on nanohybrid materials with different molecular chemical structures and physical topologies, architectures, and interactions and their assemblies in the bulk, solution, and thin films. He is also active in developing researches of conducting polymers, photovoltaics, polymer optics, and photonics.
3.Prof. Michael J. YASZEMSKI, Mayo Clinic
Dr. Yaszemski is a Professor of Orthopaedics and Bioengineering at the Mayo Clinic, and the Director of the Tissue Engineering and Biomaterials Laboratory. He received bachelor and master degrees in chemical engineering from Lehigh University. He received his doctorate of medicine degree from Georgetown University and a Ph.D. in chemical engineering from MIT. His clinical practice encompasses spinal surgery and sacropelvic tumor surgery.
4.Prof. An-Chang SHI, McMaster University
Prof. An-Chang Shi received a Ph.D. in physics from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 1988. He then went to McMaster University in Canada as a Postdoctoral Fellow/Research Associate. In 1992 he became a Member of Research Stuff at Xerox Research Centre of Canada. In 1999 he joined the Department of Physics & Astronomy at McMaster University as an Associate Professor, and promoted to Professor in 2004. Prof. Shi is a world renowned soft matter theorist. His research interests include theory of phases and phase transition of soft matter, self-assembly and morphology of block copolymers, statistical mechanics of conformation of macromolecules, and theory of bilayer membranes. He has published over 200 papers (~7000 citations) in peer-reviewed journals including PNAS, PRL, JACS, and given more than 50 invited talks in international conferences. He was elected as a Fellow of the American Physical Society in 2010.
5.Prof. Tianbo LIU, The University of Akron
Tianbo Liu received B.S. degree in Chemistry from Peking University in 1994, and Ph.D. degree from Stony Brook University (advisor: Benjamin Chu) in 1999. He started his independent research career at the Physics Department of Brookhaven National Laboratory in May 2001. In January 2005 he moved to the Department of Chemistry, Lehigh University. In January 2013, he assumed the current position as A. Schulman Chair Professor at the Department of Polymer Science, The University of Akron. He is interested in the physical chemistry of various complex fluid systems including polyoxometalate solutions. Tianbo Liu, Ph.D., A. 6.Prof. Christopher LI, Drexel University
Christopher Li received his B. S. from the University of Science and Technology of China in 1995 and his Ph.D. from the Department of Polymer Science, The University of Akron in December, 1999. After working as a post-doc at the Maurice Morton Institute of Polymer Science, UA for 2 years, he joined Drexel University, the Department of Materials Science and Engineering in January, 2002 as an assistant professor, and was promoted to associate and full professor in 2007, and 2011, respectively. His research focuses on understanding structure-morphology-property relationship of complex soft and hybrid materials. His group is interested in various ordered polymeric systems, including crystalline, liquid crystalline and block copolymers for energy storage and biomedical applications. Christopher Li is a Fellow of American Physical Society and North American Thermal Analysis Society (NATAS). He is on the Editorial Advisory Board of Macromolecules, ACS Macro Letters, Polymer, and Journal of Thermal Analysis and Calorimetry.
7.Dr. Oleksandr MYKHAYLYK , The University of Sheffield
Oleksandr Mykhaylyk was a senior scientist at the institute of materials science at the national academy of sciences in Ukraine. From 2000 to 2001, he was awarded the royal society/NATO fellowship fund for research work at the university of Cambridge. He then joined the department of chemistry at the university of Leeds in the UK to work on the self-assembly of nano-structures by block copolymers and fat crystals. Since 2004, he has been a senior researcher in crystallography at the university of Sheffield's department of chemistry. Oleksandr Mykhaylyk has extensive experience in diffraction/scattering techniques for structural characterization of materials. He is good at visible light, neutron, X-ray diffraction/scattering, including small Angle scattering, small Angle neutron scattering, X-ray diffraction and single crystal diffraction. After more than 20 years of study and work in this field, he has been involved in the structural analysis of various soft and hard materials, including hard materials such as metal, concrete and superhard materials, as well as soft materials such as polymer, micelle, colloid and liquid crystal. His current research interests are mainly structural characterization of soft matter, especially using visible light, neutron, X-ray diffraction/scattering techniques.
8.Prof. Toshikazu MIYOSHI, The University of Akron
Toshikazu Miyoshi obtained his Ph.D in Chemistry (1997) at Kyoto University, Japan. After postdoctoral work at Institute of Polymer Research Dresden, Germany, he joined National Institute of Advanced Technology and Industrial Science (AIST), Japan in 2000. He joined department of polymer science at The University of Akron, as an associate professor in 2010 and promoted to Professor in 2018. His research interests include developments of solid-state NMR techniques and their application to semi- crystalline and glassy polymers, carbon materials, self-assembly, and biomaterials. His scientific publication number is over 70. Since 2016, he is serving as Editorial Advisory Board members in Macromolecules and ACS Macro Letters.
9.Prof. Hiroshi JINNAI, Tohoku University
Hiroshi Jinnai obtained his Ph.D. at Kyoto University, Department of Polymer Chemistry in 1993. Then he worked at Kyoto University, Department of Polymer Chemistry as a research fellow supported by JSPS (Japan Society for the Promotion of Science) Research Fellowships for Young Scientists. Currently, he is a professor at the Institute of Multidisciplinary Research for Advanced Materials (IMRAM), Tohoku University. His research interests focus on the development advanced technique of electron microscopy. His scientific publication number is over 200, and H-index is 37.
10.Prof. Rong-Ming HO, National Tsing Hua University
RongMing Ho received his Ph.D. degree from the Institute of Polymer Science, University of Akron (USA), in 1995 under the supervision of Prof. Stephen Z. D. Cheng. He then moved to Minneapolis and worked as a postdoctoral fellow in the Department of Chemical Engineering and Materials Science, University of Minnesota (USA), with Profs. Christopher W. Macosko and Frank S. Bates. Currently, he is a distinguished professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering, National Tsing Hua University (NTHU)(Taiwan).
