On the morning of 23 September, the Director of the Department of Biomedical Engineering of School of Materials Science and Engineering, Prof. Xiaofeng Chen gave the students a lecture on frontiers and progress in biomedical materials. Professor Chen’s explanation was vivid, combined with a large number of cutting-edge scientific research results and medical practical cases in simple terms. The students learned a lot from this lecture.
Professor Chen first gave an overview of the history and development of biomedical materials. He comprehensively introduced property requirements, applications, and general progresses made in this field.
Prof. Chen then explained the classification of biomedical materials. From natural materials to synthetic materials, from inorganic metals such as cobalt, titanium, and magnesium to organic polymer materials such as PLA and chitin, and inorganic non-metallic materials such as ceramics and active glass, biomedical materials is advancing very rapidly.
Prof. Chen pointed out that the success of research in this kind of material will bring a breakthrough in disease treatment and wound healing for many patients home and abroad, and will be in great demand in society.
Finally, Prof. Chen wished that all the students could study hard and have a solid foundation of the basic knowledge of materials science and make their own achievements after graduation.
