President Prof. Tang Hongwu visits the School of Marine Science and Engineering

On the afternoon of October 21st, Prof. Tang Hongwu, the President of South China University of Technology, led a team to visit the school and conduct a development meeting on marine science and engineering. Dean Prof. Cheng Liang, along with all other faculty members, join the meeting.

The Meeting

At the start of the meeting, Cheng presented a detailed report on the development of the school, emphasizing key areas such as faculty development, disciplinary frameworks, scientific research, and talent cultivation. He also elaborated on the current challenges encountered, as well as the overarching objectives and plans for the '15th Five-Year Plan' period.  

Subsequently, President Tang highlighted that the development of the school aligns with the Maritime Power Strategy and addresses the developmental requirements of the South China Sea. It holds significant importance in supporting the growth of the marine economy within the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and in fostering the marine talent that is critically needed in this new age.

To further the advancement of the school, Tang proposed three key requirements: First, a long term strategic plan is crucial; Second, it is imperative to fully utilize marine-related disciplines in three campuses; Third, continuous improvement of internal governance of the school is needed.
