time: 2015-07-03

Faculty
The current number of faculties in optics division is 16, 11 with Ph.D Degrees and 3 with M.S. degree. There are 3 professors, 6 associate professors, 4 lecturers , 1 senior engineer and 1 engineer.
Bachelor degree program
We provide bachelor degree program in Optical Information Science and Technology. In this program, undergraduates take a common core of subjects, including optics, the theory and technology of laser, optical fiber, detection and procession of optical signals, optical displaying, optical memories, etc. They systematically build upon the broad foundation to deepen the understanding in areas matching their individual interests. This course makes the students master the theory steadily and improve their experimental skills in a variety of fields. The students can work and research in the fields of optical communication, optical detection and optical information procession after graduation. The stem subjects include optics, informational optoelectronics, optical fiber communication, foundation of information theory, signals and linear systems, digital signal processing, principle of communication, analysis of electric circuits, analog electronic circuits, digital electronic circuits, electrodynamics, optoelectronic technology, laser technology, data structure and principle of computer.
There is a Specialized Laboratory for Optical Science and Technology. The area of this Lab is about 150 square meters. The main equipments of this Lab include Nd:YAG laser, electron speckle interferometry, electric-optical modulation unit, acousto-optical modulation unit, embedded systems, optical fiber welding machine, experimental kits of principles of communication, optical fiber communication and optical fiber sensor, systems of digital signal processing and optical design. Seventeen experiments have been run in this Lab which covering eight fields including principle of communication, optical fiber communication, optical fiber sensor, optical information processing, optical fiber technology, optical design, optical-electrical technology and laser technology. About 80 students use this Lab each year.
Maser degree program
Master degree of science in optics can be awarded in this division. There are currently 7 supervisors divided into 6 research areas, which including optoelectronics & opto-electrical technology, optoelectrical information, quantum optics and nonlinear optics & their applications, machine vision and human-machine engineering, Optical communication net and Optics engineering. The number of graduate students enrolled each year is more than 20.
Research and Publications
There are five types of research labs, including Lab of machine vision, Lab of optical communication technology, Lab of opto-electrical technology, Lab of modern optical instruments and Lab of laser spectroscopy. The founding and research projects come from the National Natural Science foundation of China, Natural Science foundation of Guangdong Province and local companies. More than 20 scientific articles can be published and a few patens can be authorized each year.
