On 27th November, professor Yang Mei of SFL, SCUT led her Xu-based instruction team to participate in the 3rd conference of Xu, which was hosted by China SLA Association and undertaken by the College of Foreign Languages of Ocean University of China and Center for Linguistics and Applied Linguistics of GDUFS. The theme of this conference was the new development of Xu: theory and practice. And professor Yang Mei made a speech, Unlocking the Power of “Xu”, on the conference.
The theory of Xu was first stated by professor Wang Chuming of GDUFS and his team. It is a Chinese-style new theory of SLA. To further and deepen the study of Xu, professor Yang Mei and her team stated the power of Xu, based on the NSSF project Xu-based instruction. She meant to study the learners’ ability of Xu and construct the analytical framework of the power of Xu. And she introduced the research results of fields like applied linguistics to justify the meaning and value for the learners to develop the ability of Xu. She also analyzed the challenges faced by the Xu study.
The power of Xu is the latest result of the Xu-based instruction team. And it is an innovative result of the theory and practice of foreign language teaching. Professor Yang Mei’s speech was highly appraised and supported by scholars at the meeting. Professor Yang Mei’s speech not only aroused the wide concerns for the power of Xu, but also promoted the development of SFL, SCUT.
