To speed the construction of doctor conferrable spot in foreign language and literature, the Innovation and Development Forum of the school of foreign language and literature was successfully held on November 25 in Conference Room 1101, Duxing Building, Wushan Campus. Professors Peng Qinglong, Zhong Weihe, Liu Jianda, Huang Guowen, Qu Weiguo, Yang Feng Xu Dejin and other well-known domestic scholars and experts attended the forum. Vice President Zhu Min delivered an opening speech.

In his speech, Zhu Min said that the level of scientific research of the School of Foreign Languages has been continuously improved in recent years, and major breakthroughs have been made in the discipline construction. This forum invited well-known scholars and experts in foreign language and literature to conduct in-depth discussions on discipline construction and doctoral program construction. It is believed that everyone present can offer suggestions to further promote the rapid development of the discipline in our school.

Experts attending the meeting were astonished by the achievements of our school in the past 10 years in scientific research, teaching, and teacher team building, believing that the achievements were hard-won. The doctoral program of foreign language and literature consists of foreign linguistics and applied linguistics, foreign literature, intercultural and translation studies as well as country and regional studies. The four disciplines, decorated with their own characteristics, are well-standardized, focusing not only on the ontology research of language and literature, but also on the cross-discipline integration. Discipline development should cater to national strategic needs and local economic and social development as well as on the cultivation of high-end foreign language talents to participate in international competition and global governance. With the principles of pertinence, rationality, leadership, foresight, and effectiveness and from the top-level design of discipline construction and the standards of assessment and evaluation, experts at the meeting put forward many feasible opinions and suggestions, which focused on scientific research, team building, talent cultivating, social services and other discipline evaluation systems. These opinions and suggestions will provide a strong driving force and guarantee for our school to further clarify the direction of discipline construction and promote the steady and long-term development of foreign language and literature discipline.
