In recent days, the 2021 Excellent Teaching Case Collection and Exchange Activities of Ideological and Political Education in Foreign Language Courses in Colleges and Universities (Undergraduate), co-sponsored by Higher Education Press, National Network Training Center for University Teachers and the Editorial Department of China Foreign Languages, announced the list of excellent teaching cases in Guangdong Province, and the team led by Associate Professor Zhan Shuangjuan of College English Teaching Department of the school of foreign languages of South China University of Technology won the first prize of excellent teaching cases of ideological and political education in foreign language courses in Guangdong Province.
This activity aimed at fully implementing the Guidance outline for Ideological and Political Construction of College Curriculum issued by the Ministry of Education, further playing the positive role of foreign language curriculum in moral education, and comprehensively improving the ideological and political teaching ability of college foreign language teachers. Since the launch of the competition, our College and the College English Teaching Department have attached great importance to it and actively prepared for it. The participating teams thoroughly studied the requirements of the competition, explored the ideas in terms ideology and politics, wrote teaching schemes, optimized teaching design and carefully recorded teaching videos, striving to achieve the multiple goals of language teaching, ability cultivation and moral education. After more than 3 months of fierce competition, our faculty team stood out from many participating universities and won the award.
In recent years, the College English Teaching Department has attached great importance to curriculum ideological and political construction. We have been actively exploring a new model of curriculum ideological and political construction, adhering to the unity of knowledge transfer and value guidance, and integrating curriculum ideological and political into the whole teaching process of curriculum design, classroom practice and teaching evaluation; At the same time, we have been paying attention to strengthening the education of Chinese excellent traditional culture, guiding students to establish cultural consciousness, enhancing cultural self-confidence and confidence in our own culture, cultivating and practicing socialist core values, and committing to cultivating new people of the times and socialist builders and successors with all-round development of morality, intelligence, physique, art and labor who are enough to shoulder the great task of national rejuvenation.
Education-oriented, moral education comes first. Curriculum construction in terms of ideology and politics is a long-term and systematic project. The College English Teaching Department will develop ideas and keep pace with the times in terms of teaching requirements, contents, methods and development, integrate ideological and political education into college English teaching, comprehensively improve teachers' curriculum ideological and political teaching ability, and further give play to the positive role of foreign language teachers and courses in moral cultivation.
