In order to implement the South China University of Technology First-class Undergraduate Action Plan (2018-2030) and the South China University of Technology Implementation Plan for Building First-class Undergraduate Education with People-oriented, and to give full play to the important role of top-quality teaching materials in curriculum construction, the school recently launched the application for the construction project of top-quality teaching materials for undergraduates in 2021, and 32 projects were identified after expert evaluation and argumentation.

Many teachers of the Foreign Languages Institute actively participated in the application, among which the teaching material projects hosted by Liu Xiqin, Xie Baoxia, Rong Rong, and Zhan Shuangjuan were successfully approved, and the topics of teaching material projects involved in business English reading and cross-cultural communication, etc. This time, the college has been approved for 4 undergraduate excellent teaching materials, and it will make great achievements on the basis of 6 approved in 2020, which fully reflects the achievements of the college in teaching reform and curriculum construction in recent years. This batch of projects will fully implement the fundamental tasks of “strength moral education and cultivate people”, help the ideological and political construction of curriculum, and strive to create a three-dimensional teaching material system with Chinese characteristics and embody the morality and style of SCUT. The four textbooks are based on the local and global perspectives, implement the new liberal arts concept of interdisciplinary integration, and reflect internationalization, humanity, and applicability. The textbooks select language materials with ideological depth and characteristics of the times, integrate the elements of ideological education with the articles and practice design, tell the story of China in a subtle way, help students to establish correct values, outlook on life and the world, so as to train them to be outstanding talents with both “family-country” emotion and global vision.

Up to now, all kinds of teaching materials compiled by our college have been widely used in various language courses in many domestic colleges and universities, and have a far-reaching influence in language teaching circles at home and abroad. With the continuous promotion of double-first-class construction, the college will continue to give full play to its experience and advantages in compiling teaching materials, building first-class courses, promoting the construction of national first-class undergraduate majors, and positively participating in and helping the school to start a new journey of building a world-class university with Chinese characteristics.
