In the afternoon of May 19, the second opening session of the 2020 National Social Science Foundation project was held in the conference room 4417 of the School of Foreign Languages, Building 4. Prof. Wang Chuming from Guangdong University of Foreign Studies, who was an expert of the National Social Science Foundation of China, member of the Fifth and Sixth State Council Discipline Review Group on Foreign Languages and Literature, was invited. Prof. Zhong Shouneng, dean of the School of Foreign Languages and Prof. Wu Jianguo, vice dean of the School of Foreign Languages of South China University of Technology attended this meeting. Prof. Yang Mei, leader of the project “Xu-based instruction”, introduced the general situation of the project in detail, and sorted out the content of the project with the general framework of building XBI theory system and XBI teaching application research, and pointed out the problems and challenges that might be encountered during the implementation of the project, and proposed solutions to the existing problems.
Dr. Yue-Ling Ma, the leader of the project “Research on the sense of ‘community’ in Cooper’s novels”, gave a detailed explanation of the research topic focusing on the sense of “community” in Cooper’s novels, introduced the key points and difficulties of the project from both horizontal and vertical aspects, and finally explained the division of labor and schedule of the project members.
Prof. Jia Qi, the leader of the project “A comparative Chinese-Japanese study of retrospective sequences and their dynamics in the context of conversational analysis”, introduced the background of the project with concrete examples and pointed out that the project focuses on the structural and sequential features of conversational structure, which has positive significance in cross-cultural communication.
Prof. Li Jing, who is in charge of the project “Grammaticalization of the Japanese language expression system in the context of linguistic subjectivity”, gave a full explanation of the research object “Japanese language expression system”, introduced the theoretical basis, general research line, research method and schedule of this project, and finally pointed out the specific problems and corresponding improvement methods of the project.
Prof. Zhou Jianxin, the project leader of “Emily Dickinson’s Literary Image in Paratextual Perspective”, entrusted Dr. Ma Yueling to report the project, pointing out that the project aims to explore Emily Dickinson’s image in paratextual texts and its causes, and elaborating on the research object, sources, general framework, project organization and division of labor, and schedule.
