According to the “Notice of Guangdong Provincial Department of Education on Furthering the Reform of Curriculum Ideological and Political Construction”, a total of 392 demonstration projects for the reform of curriculum ideological and political construction in Guangdong Province in 2020 have been selected and recommended by schools and reviewed by the Provincial Department of Education, including 84 demonstration teams, 160 demonstration courses and 148 demonstration classrooms. South China University of Technology was awarded 15 demonstration projects for the reform of curriculum ideological and political construction, and the School of Foreign Languages was awarded three of them, namely: the Curriculum Ideological and Political Demonstration Team -- College English Curriculum Team led by Professor Han Jinlong; the Ideological and Political Demonstration Course -- English Speech by Associate Professor Rong Rong; and the Ideological and Political Demonstration Class -- Unit II of Academic English led by Ms. Zhu Lin.

In recent years, the college English teaching team led by Professor Han Jinlong has been committed to the reform of curriculum ideological and political construction and has made outstanding achievements in the research of curriculum ideological and political theory and resource construction, and has applied relevant achievements in teaching reform practice, and achieved remarkable results in education. The team maintains a reasonable echelon structure, and formed a stable mentoring mechanism and a teaching cooperation mechanism inside the team. The college English teaching team has long insisted on student-centered teaching and made full use of modern information technology to innovate teaching methods, which are widely welcomed by students. The team was also awarded the “2020 South China University of Technology Undergraduate Course Ideological and Political Demonstration Team”.
Associate Professor RongRong in charge of English Speech course uses advanced teaching concept, combines the characteristics of the course and timely integrates moral education elements such as family and country feelings, social responsibility, moral norms, consciousness of rule of law, history and culture, ideological quality and scientific spirit. This teaching concept leads the value throughout the teaching of the course, so as to achieve the subtle and silent effect of educating students. The teaching effect of the course is great, which is well received by students and peer experts inside and outside the school, and realized the integration of curriculum ideology and professional teaching.
Ms. Zhu Lin teaches the undergraduate Academic English course, which has been approved as a national first-class undergraduate course (online first-class course). Teacher Zhu’s class follows the syllabus arrangement of the curriculum, the ideological and political teaching objectives are clear, teaching ideas are distinct, classroom teaching methods are flexible and diverse, skillfully integrated with patriotism, social responsibility, humanistic spirit and other ideological and political content elements, to achieve the silent effect of ideological and political education. Students are in good learning condition, with high participation in classroom teaching and active classroom atmosphere.
Following the compilation and publication of the New College English Ideological and Political Course and the winning of the National Foreign Language Curriculum Ideological and Political Teaching Competition, the award of a number of provincial curriculum ideological and political construction reform demonstration projects is also a fruitful result of the School of Foreign Languages actively promoting the ideological and political construction of the curriculum. Under the guidance of the demonstration team, teachers and students of the school will further implement the curriculum ideological and political education goals in the curriculum construction and classroom practice, and achieve the full coverage of curriculum ideological and political education.
