Profile of ZHANG Fengchun(张凤春)

Educational background

     Ms Zhang studied for her undergraduate degree in English language at Anhui Normal University and then took her MA in applied linguistics at South China University of Technology (SCUT) in 2000.

Career Details

   Ms Zhang started teaching English in Anhui before s moving to Guangzhou as an English teacher at SCUT in 1992.

    She has been working in the College English team and teaches Integrated English, Introduction to Western Culture, Journalistic English and English Listening to non-English majors and English minors.

 She was in charge of the English tests in her team from 2005 to 2009 and then of the selective English course teaching till 2013. She switched to Chinese language and culture teaching since August 2013, when she went to the United Kingdom as the director of Lancaster University Confucius Institute. In Lancaster University, she was the course convenor ofChinese Culture and Society and also taught it to undergraduates. She is also course convenor of all the non-credit courses of Mandarin and teaches Mandarin from the beginner to improver levels.

Research

     Ms Zhang researches and publishes in several areas, including translation, cross-cultural communication, textbooks, and culture. She has publications in translation, discourse analysis and cross-cultural communication from 1998 to 2012. She co-edited three English-Chinese dictionaries of American slangs and English idioms, which were published respectively in 1995, 1998 and 2003. She compiled 20 textbooks for college students and hosted a couple of research projects on testing and English language teaching before she went to the UK.

    She is currently researching Chinese and Western culture, and writing a book on the British culture, which is based on her years of work and life in the UK.
