On the afternoon of April 19, 2012, a meeting of "Caring for the Next Generation" was held by School of Foreign Languages in the conference room on the first floor of C2 dorm building, South campus. Attendees included Mr. Huang Kai, Ms. Lin Yuling and Mr. Tian Zhaoqing—who are retired teachers and also members of the Committee of Caring for the Next Generation, and Mr. Zhao Shuidong, Secretary of the Youth League Committee of the School. Sixteen students of the school who received funding were present at the meeting.

The three retired teachers awarded funds and dictionaries to the students eligible for “2012 Students Care Funds of School of Foreign Languages”, and the funded students expressed their deep gratitude for the care and help of the retired teachers, described their learning and living conditions and talked about their doubts and confusions about study and life. Hearing the students’ bewilderment, the three teachers told their stories about their hard work in defiance of difficulties during their youth. Being exciting and inspiring, those stories greatly impressed every funded student. The teachers stressed the importance of having a healthy body for a learner and advised the students to keep doing physical exercise while striving for more knowledge. And they also encouraged the kids to take good advantage of the four years’ campus life, establish lofty ideals and cling to the ideals by overcoming all the obstacles ahead.

The project of "Caring for the Next Generation" Student Care Funds was set up in September 2005. It was initiated by the school’s retired teachers and was the first one in the University. The funds are raised through the donations of the retired teachers and annually support a number of first-year undergraduates of the school, hoping to motivate them to develop hardworking, thanksgiving and trustworthy spirit. So far, 35 undergraduates have received the funds. (From SFL news network)
