To better bring out college English teaching reform so as to comply with the university’s international strategy of talent cultivating, on the afternoon of Jun 21,Year 2011 Teaching Seminar of college English national teaching team was successfully held at lecture hall of school of foreign languages. The seminar mainly discussed how to improve period teaching and comprehensive teaching as well as the future direction of college English course reform. The meeting was hosted by team coordinator ---vice Professor Zhang Fengchun. She emphasized that this seminar as the continuation of Year 2010 college English teaching seminar aimed at providing a platform for teachers to communicate and learn.

      The seminar consisted of two parts: experience introduction and group discussion. First, Zheng Xuedan discussed how to teach technical English. She held that the object of technical English teaching was different from college English teaching, because the language of technical English has distinct characteristics which requires different teaching pattern. After that, Ma Hui shared her experiences in the preparation for Guangdong College English Teaching Competition. She proposed that good teaching method must be student-oriented, --reinforcing the interaction between teachers and students as well as cooperation learning between students, --improving content-based innovation and interest of teaching form and appealing to affective teaching. Professor Han Jinlong, team coordinator and vice dean in charge of college English teaching, elaborated the course reform of college English series from the aspect of the university’s international strategy of talent cultivating, and then introduced the content and reason of the reform to all the college English teachers. He emphasized that the forthcoming implementation of education reform within historical prospective was the momentous choice all the college English teachers are facing, which would provide the strong guarantee for the sustainable development of college English team and new chances for young teachers. Finally, the team discussed lively on the details of reform. It was agreed by all the teachers that college English teaching reform with clear object and innovation could meet the need of time and the development of the university. With practical significance, the reform pointed out the direction of development for all the members of the team.

      A large number of participants attended the seminar with active and constructive interaction. The meeting clarified the idea of classroom teachers for teaching reform, unified thinking of the majority of teachers into the same line of education reform – following "internationalization" trend, and laid ideological foundation for the smooth progress of education reform.(By Ying Xu )
