With its theme called ”Season of Love”, the opening ceremony of the English Castle was held on March 21, 2010 . Students and teachers presented had a feast of western culture.
After a fascinating performance of Robot and Breaking Dance, which followed by an impressive song accompanied by guitar, every face of the audience was lit up with excitement. Eight lucky dogs among them were picked up to join in a game, bringing in a beautiful singing show. The upsurge came when a bride was seen in stage, denoting the start of the traditional western wedding. She walked slowly towards our foreign Professor Mr. Brown who was invited as the priest under the rhythm of The Wedding March. In front of Mr. Brown stood the bridegroom who waited anxiously. The couple finally got together, answering for the oath of marriage read by the priest. After that the priest declared the couple man and wife, which became effective when they exchanged rings. The bride and the bridegroom shared their happiness with others by ways of a dancing ball, inviting every participant to jump in and have fun.
The English Castle is held every Sunday night beginning at seven in the 32 building of South China University of Technology, responsible by School of Foreign Languages of SCUT. It aims to provide as many as opportunities to help students in SCUT improve their English, especially oral English.(by Monica Leung)
