Joint research institutes

Research institutes under Project 111

Co-launched by the Ministry of Education (MOE) and the State Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs of China (SAFEA), Project 111 supports select research institutes to conduct high-level international academic activities. Four institutes at SCUT won support from Project 111. They are all based on the people and facilities of key laboratories or research centers at national level. Each institute will receive a five-year grant of 9 million RMB, or 1.42 million USD, for international research initiatives, long- and short-term visiting scholars, international workshops or conferences, student co-education, and so on.

        (2006, Based on the State Key Laboratory of Luminescent Materials and Devices)  

  •     Institute for Building Physics Environment and Building Energy Saving
        (2011, Based on the State Key Laboratory of Subtropical Building Science)    

  •     Institute for Pulp and Paper Engineering
        (2012, Based on the State Key Laboratory of Pulp and Paper Engineering)  

  •     Institute for Novel Biomedical Materials and Tissue Repair
        (2013, Based on the National Engineering Research Center for Tissue Restoration and Reconstruction)  

  •     Institute for Food Nutrition and Human Health
        (2017, Based on the National Engineering Laboratory for Wheat and Maize Further Processing, and the MOE      

  •     Engineering Research Center of Starch and Plant Protein Further Processing)  


MOE International Collaborative Laboratory

Launched by the Ministry of Education (MOE) in 2014, the MOE International Collaborative Laboratory Program is aimed to promote high-level research, education, and laboratory operation through intense international collaboration.

SCUT global fund

Eligibility

SCUT Global Funds are open to all SCUT faculties. All the following international academic activities are eligible for sponsorship: 

  • Giving lectures 

  • Giving credit courses 

  • Research cooperation 

  • Hosting international workshop, symposium or conference 


Available funding

Funding may be used to cover travel, salary, accommodation, and a small amount of incidental expenses for overseas partners to come and work at SCUT. Funding may not be used to cover catering or equipment, or to cover expanse incurred by SCUT faculties or students.


Maximum award amounts vary depending on the specific fund you're applying, ranging from 5,000 RMB to several million RMB. For detailed information, please click here. 


Priority will be given to: 

  • Projects that involve world-renowned scientists and researchers 

  • New projects or projects that are entering a new phase 

  • Projects that involve students 

  • Projects that are likely to be sustainable beyond the grant period
