The academic papers of twostudents from the College's Millimeter Wave and Terahertz Technology Team wereselected as the second prize of the Best Student Paper Award in theInternational Conference on Microwave Millimeter Wave Technology and theInternational Wireless Conference after fierce competition and strictselection.
The InternationalConference on Microwave and Millimeter Wave Technology 2024 (ICMMT 2024), asthe conference with the highest number of submissions among the three Chineseand English conferences held in this year's China Microwave Week, had 921registrants, 873 accepted papers, 275 participating papers, 21 nominatedpapers, and finally awarded 8 papers(among them, 4 third prizes, 3 second prizes, and 1 first prize). Dr. ZhengDong (supervisor: Prof. Quan Xue), a PhD student from the Millimeter Wave andTerahertz Technology Team, School of Electronic and Information Engineering,South China University of Technology, has won the Best Student Paper Award(Second Prize) at the International Conference on Microwave and Millimeter WaveTechnology 2024 (IEEE ICMMT2024) for his outstanding performance.

The award-winningpaper, Aramid Paper-based Metamaterial Lens Antenna, presents forthe first time a new type of lens antenna based on aramid paper material, whichcan significantly improve the antenna gain and beam coverage of the basestation antenna. The proposed paper-based lens is extremely light in weight andhigh in structural performance, which facilitates large-scale engineering andmass industrial production, providing a breakthrough solution for the capacityenhancement of microwave communication systems.

The International WirelessSymposium 2024 (IWS 2024) had a total of 192 participating papers, and 21papers entered the final round. A number of internationally renowned expertsformed the judging committee anonymously scored the papers based on technicalinnovativeness, clarity of expression, and potential impact through posterpresentations and on-site defenses, and finally selected the six best studentpapers (among them, three third-place winners, two second-place winners, andone first-place winner). Dingyuan Zeng, a PhD student from the Millimeter Waveand Terahertz Technology Team, School of Electronic and InformationEngineering, South China University of Technology, was awarded the Best StudentPaper Award Second Place Winner of the International Wireless Conference 2024.Associate Prof. Haoshen Zhu, Prof. Wenquan Che and Prof. Quan Xue supervisedthe thesis work.
The award-winningpaper A Compact Ka-band Asymmetric SPDT Switch in 0.15-μm GaN-on-SiCTechnology for 5G Applications proposes an asymmetricsingle-pole-double-throw switch structure based on multi-resonator coupling tomeet the requirements of 5G millimeter-wave band broadband, miniaturized andhigh-performance RF front-end applications. Aiming at the needs of 5Gmillimeter-wave band broadband and miniaturized high-performance RF front-endapplications, an asymmetric single-pole-double-throw switch structure based onmulti-resonator coupling is proposed. The broadband miniaturization offront-end switches is successfully realized by co-designing the parasiticparameters of transistor switches with aggregate and distributed passivecomponents, which provides a valuable technical solution for high-performanceand small-size RF front-end applications.

China Microwave Week2024 consists of three international and domestic academic conferences, namely,National Conference on Microwave and Millimeter Wave (NCMMW), InternationalConference on Microwave and Millimeter Wave Technology (ICMMT), IEEE MTT-S InternationalWireless Symposium (IWS), and the Microwave Technology Achievements andProducts Exhibition (MWIE). It attracted more than 2,000 experts and scholarsin the field of microwave and millimeter wave at home and abroad to participatein the conference, displaying the latest scientific research results andproviding a communication platform for the participants to discuss thedevelopment trend of microwave and millimeter wave technology and applicationprospects. The theme of this year's Microwave Week is Micro to Core, Waveto World, covering a wide range of research fields from chip to antenna, from micro to macro, highlighting its extensive influence in the field ofmicrowave, millimeter wave and terahertz technology. The conference is organizedby the Institute of Electronics of China and co-organized by Microwave Branchof IEC, Beijing Institute of Technology, Beijing University of Posts andTelecommunications and Tsinghua University.
