December 13-14, 2022, IEEE MTT-S IMWS-AMP 2022 (2022 IEEE MTT-S International Microwave Workshop Series on Advanced Materials and Processes for RF and THz Applications) was successfully held in Guangzhou.IEEE IMWS-AMP is an annual international academic conference in the field of electromagnetism and microwave technology.Since 2016, it has been successfully held in many cities in China, the United States, Italy, Germany and other countries.This conference not only provides an international academic exchange platform for researchers and engineers in the field of microwave technology, but also provides a good opportunity for young scholars and students to show their innovative achievements.At the same time, this series of conferences also provides an exhibition platform for companies in relevant fields to display new products and seek new cooperation.
2022 IEEE IMWS-AMP is held by School of Electronics and Information, South China University of Technology, co-organized by Shenzhen Key Laboratory of Electromagnetic Information, Southern University of Science and Technology and the Guangzhou Alumni Association of the University of Electronic Science and Technology. Technical support is provided by IEEE Microwave Theory and Technology Society (MTT-S) and IEEE Guangzhou Antenna/Microwave Joint Branch.Professor Quan Xue, Dean of School of Electronics and Information /School of Microelectronics, served as the chairman of the conference, and Professor Wenquan Che from School of Electronics and Information served as the chairman of the Procedure committee.Several professors from the millimeter wave and terahertz technical teams served as the chairmen and vice-chairmen of the sub-committees of the organizing committee of the conference, and some cadre teachers from the key laboratory of millimeter wave and terahertz in Guangdong Province also actively participated in the organization and preparation of the conference.Due to the impact of the epidemic, the organizing committee set up a small offline opening ceremony venue, and all participants outside the school participated in the conference related activities online.
Professor Quan Xue, Chairman of the conference, delivered a speech at the opening ceremony of the conference. He warmly welcomed the experts and scholars from all over the world and expressed his heartfelt thanks to the colleagues of the Organizing committee and microwave industry for their great support.Professor Xue Quan expressed the hope that the conference can provide a good opportunity for researchers at home and abroad to share achievements and serve as a platform for cooperation and exchange.In 2022, Professor Rashounda Henderson, chairman of IEEE MTT-S, delivered a speech on behalf of MTT-S on the smooth opening of the conference, especially mentioning the outstanding contribution of the Chinese microwave academic community to MTT-S.On behalf of the procedural committee, Professor Wenquan Che briefly introduced the preparation of the conference and the acceptance of papers, after which three well-known experts in the field of microwave made wonderful special invited reports to the conference.Raafat Mansour from the University of Waterloo in Canada introduced microwave millimeter wave devices based on phase change materials and their applications in future communication systems.Professor Kai Kang from University of Electronic Science and Technology of China presented a report on the latest research results of millimeter wave integrated circuits and phased array systems, and Professor Ming Yu from Southern University of Science and Technology presented the latest progress in the design and synthesis of microwave filter parts.
This conference has a strong academic atmosphere, high quality reports and rich content, covering topics including microwave and terahertz circuits and devices, antennas and circuits based on new materials and new processes, microwave/millimeter wave chips, microwave circuits and systems, advanced RF packaging technology, advanced materials and processes and other cutting-edge research directions in the field of electromagnetics.The conference received papers from 12 countries and regions, including the United Kingdom, the United States, Canada, Singapore, Australia, Japan, Hong Kong/Macao, China, and 552 of them were actually accepted, which is the highest number of IMWS-AMP sessions.The conference has 42 sub-forums, including 296 oral presentations; 10 poster sub-forums, including 256 poster presentations.The conference held a student paper competition, selected 6 outstanding student paper awards and 6 outstanding paper nomination awards.It is worth mentioning that with the support of IEEE MTT-S Education Committee, the PhD Student Initiative was launched for the first time, inviting 45 doctoral students from more than 20 universities in mainland China to attend and exchange free of charge. Conversations with experts were setting up to broaden the vision of graduate students in order to enhance their ability to carry out high-level scientific research.In addition, the conference also held a special topic on Women in microwave engineering. Scholars were invited to participate in exchanges, to discuss how to bridge the gap between gender, academic research and engineering application in research and student training, and how to improve the ability to participate in international cooperation and exchange.This conference was supported by Huawei, Huizhou Gaoshengda Technology Co., LTD., Jiangsu Jiangjia Electronics Co., LTD. and other sponsors.
The whole conference was widely praised by the participants with its warm and thoughtful organization, high-quality papers and good results, which greatly enhanced the academic influence of South China University of Technology in the field of electromagnetic field and microwave technology among its peers at home and abroad.
