Introduction

The School of Electronic and Information Engineering, was established in January 2002, by merging the former Radio Department founded in 1952, the Institute of Radio and Automatic Control and the Center for Electrical and Electronic Teaching. At present, it consists of 5 departments, 9 research institutes and 2 teaching research units.

The research and teaching at SEIE encompasses a wide scope of technologies including microelectronics, wireless communications and networking, signal and information, system and automation, biomedical electronics, photonics, computer engineering and IC design.

SEIE offers a stimulating environment for studying electronic and computer engineering. The school has amassed a talented group of faculty dedicated to excellence in research and teaching. Our permanent faculty, research staff, and administrative staff is 135. The excellent faculty of the school consists of 35 professors, 51 associate professors and 96 doctoral degree holders.

We have equipped our laboratories and classrooms with state-of-the-art facilities for research and multimedia teaching. Our goal is to prepare students to become capable engineers and future technology leaders in the ever-changing world of high technology. We offer a full range of courses leading to a number of undergraduate and postgraduate degrees. The School of Electronic and Information Engineering offers 6 doctoral programmes, 6 master programmes and 4 undergraduate programmes. The programme of Communication and Information System is the only state key discipline in the area of communications and information in South China, one of the earliest disciplines accredited to grant doctoral degree, and also in South China University of Technology one of the earliest key construction disciplines into which China makes significant investment in the 21st century. The school has 8 large R&D centres and a number of multi-media classrooms well equipped with modern equipment and appliances.

In recent years, the school has gained outstanding scientific research achievements. Currently, research in SEIE is supported by more than 100 research grants and sponsored by the Government and industries, including “863 Hi-Tech Program” and “973 Program” funded by the national government.
