SCUT commemorates the 100th birthday of Prof. FENG Bingquan

On the afternoon of Dec. 3, to commemorate the 100th birthday of Prof. FENG Bingquan, famous educationist and key founder of radio electronics in People's Republic of China, SCUT held a symposium named "Commemoration of Prof. FENG Bingquan's 100th Birthday". The meeting proposed to set up FENG Bingquan Education Fund and unveiled the bronze statue of Prof. FENG.

Being a famous expert in the field of electronics, Prof. FENG Bingquan was one of the founding father of SCUT. After graduated from TsinghuaUniversity in 1930, he went to teach inPrivateLingnanUniversity; in 1934, he got his master degree in YenchingUniversity; and in 1940 he went to HarvardUniversity for doctoral study. After the War of Resistance against Japanese, Prof. FENG Bingquan resigned from HarvardUniversity and returned to teach in LingnanUniversity. In time of national college adjustment of 1952, Prof. FENG Bingquan was a member of the preparatory committee of South China Institute of Technology (former institute of SCUT) and was afterwards appointed the first principal of teaching affairs office of South China Institute of Technology.

It is learned that SCUT proposed to set up SCUT FENG Bingquan Fund in memory of this model scientist, and the goal is to subsidize impoverished students, reward excellent students and teachers, sustain academic exploration as well as innovation research of young teachers, and also to assist the development of preponderant disciplines, emerging disciplines and interdisciplines.
