On January 15, 2019, the 2018 Annual Conference of the National Engineering Research Center for Human Tissue Function Reconstruction and the Academy of Life Sciences was successfully held in B2 Report Hall of the University Town Campus of South China University of Technology. This annual meeting is co-chaired by Professor Wang Jun, Dean of the College of Biomedical Sciences and Engineering, Professor Shi Xuetao, National Engineering Research Center for Human Tissue Function Reconstruction, and Du Jinzhi, Special Fellow of the Academy of Life Sciences. The conference invited well-known experts in the field of biomedicine at home and abroad, including Kam W. Leong, academician of the American Academy of Engineering, Columbia University, Zhu Zhizhang, academician of the American Academy of Medicine and Bioengineering, Cornell University, Professor Liu Zhuang, Suzhou University, and Dr. Zhao Zhong, the candidate of the Overseas High-level Talents Talents Introduction Program of the Chairman of Zhejiang Guichuang Medical Devices Co., Ltd More than 300 teachers and students participated in the research institute.

This annual meeting is composed of 5 invited academic reports, 8 postdoctoral academic reports and 21 postgraduate academic exchange reports, covering biomedical materials, tissue engineering, immunology, nanomedicine, stem cells, medical device industry and other directions. At the opening ceremony, academician Wang Yingjun, director of the Engineering Center/Academy, delivered a speech at the annual meeting, reviewed the memorabilia of the Center and Academy in 2018, summarized the fruitful achievements in discipline construction, personnel training and platform construction in the past year, and pointed out that in the ranking of the best disciplines in Soft Science in China in 2018, biomedical engineering disciplines ranked in 45 universities. On the list, the biomedical engineering discipline of South China University of Science and Technology ranked second in the list, and put forward the future development of the deployment work. On the spot of the conference, many teachers and students had a heated discussion on the frontier research and clinical application related to the report, and the academic atmosphere was strong.
