About Us

The Key Laboratory of Autonomous Systems and Network Control of the Ministry ofEducation, under the joint support of the Ministry of Education and South ChinaUniversity of Technology, is based on the discipline of Control Science andEngineering of the School of Automation Science and Engineering of South ChinaUniversity of Technology, and is dedicated to the basic theoretical research ofnetworked unmanned autonomous systems and the development of relatedapplication systems. Professor Tianyou Chai, the academician of the ChineseAcademy of Engineering and working in Northeastern University, is the directorof the lab academic committee, and Professor Lei Guo, the academician of theChinese Academy of Sciences and working in Beihang University, is the deputydirector of the lab academic committee. Most of the staffs have overseas studyand research backgrounds, which helps to introduce the latest internationalcutting-edge theories and methods of the discipline, innovate professional andtechnical work, promote the innovative development of the lab in theinterdisciplinary fields of low-altitude technology, intelligent robots andbrain-computer interfaces, and inject strong impetus into the lab's scientificresearch.

The lab focuses on major nationalstrategic tasks, is oriented towards the layout of emerging industries such asthe low-altitude economy of the country, and centers on several key technicaldemands for economic construction and social development in the Guangdong-HongKong-Macao Greater Bay Area. It sets up four research directions: autonomousbehavior and autonomous control of unmanned systems, coordination and controlof multiple autonomous systems in network environments, sensing and driving ofautonomous control equipment, and intelligent perception and learning. The mainresearch focuses on the fundamental theories of autonomous behaviors such asintelligent perception and learning, decision-making and control, coordinationof multiple autonomous systems, and swarm intelligence of unmanned systems incomplex network environments. It also aims to tackle key core technologies inthe design of typical unmanned systems such as low-altitude carrier unmannedaerial vehicles and intelligent robots.

The labhas carried out distinctive research in the fields of low-altitude carrierunmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) system design and application, intelligentrobots, and brain-machine intelligence. It has undertaken multiple major andkey national research projects and has exerted profound domestic andinternational academic influence in advanced UAV configuration design andflight control, autonomous equipment drive, and intelligent learning andperception. Continue to cultivate a large number of high-end professionaltalents in the field of autonomous systems, and promote the application anddevelopment of autonomous system research in national defense science andtechnology and intelligent industrial economy.

The lab actively promotesthe transformation of achievements and is currently supporting and leading thetechnological and economic development of industries and fields such aslow-altitude economy, independent intelligent equipment manufacturing, smarthealthcare, and smart cities in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
