On August 26th, the 12th National College Students' Intelligent Vehicle Competition ended in East Lake campus of Changshu Institute Of Technology. Under the guidance of Chen An and Deng Xiaoyan, students of the School of Automation in South China University of Technology achieved great success from 300 teams of more than 200 colleges and universities, including two first prize and two second prize.
It is understood that the competition was very drastic from Southern China division preliminaries to the national finals. There were about 300 teams from nearly 200 universities participating the competition. In Southern China division preliminaries, teams of SCUT has won five first prize, one second prize of outstanding achievement of a division. Ultimately four teams have been qualified for the national finals.
The National University Student Intelligent Vehicle Competition was sponsored by the sub-committee of automation teaching specialty of Ministry of Education, which contains automatic control, pattern classification, sensor technology, mechanical technique and so on. The competition has been successfully held twelve times so far, and this year's competition is the largest. It has been developed into a major university student event in 30 provinces and nearly 500 colleges and universities, with a total size of more than 200 thousand students.
