Students from the School of Architecture got an excellent achievement again at the international competition of Resilience Design In Asia 2016

On 27th to 29th, June, the final presentation of Resilience Design In Asia 2016 was held in National University of Singapore. After three days intensive forums and defenses, the selected work of our school <VIGOR OF VACANCY>, from undergraduates Grade Four, directed by Prof. Xiao yiqiang and Lecturer Xu haohao, won the Architectural Design Excellence, which is one of the best three awards in this competition. Technische Universitaet Darmstadt of Deutschland and Université de Montréal of Canada were respectively won the other two best awards—Urban Design Excellence and Overall Design Excellence. The other selected works of our school, <X ARK>, gained Judges Award.

<VIGOR OF VACANCY> was designed by Yang yuelun, Ma zishu, Tang shuai, Pei lingjing, Xie jiaheng. They focused on water system and social organization, to optimize the current modern planning, and design the community and public service in details. Their dramatic presentation impressed judges and audiences deeply.

<X ARK> was designed by Lee haozhuoLee wantingLeung zhihaoWang yicheng, Zhou zhenggu. They selected the reform of local watery shanty, tried to use the theory of buoyant raft, to build imaginative public communities and homes near water edge, which gained highly compliment on the deep research of the technique and the operational level from judges.

Resilience Design In Asia was initiated by National University of Singapore, inviting global universities to join the urban and architecture design competition, aiming at coastal areas and vulnerable areas in Asia, explored adaptive ways for post disaster reconstruction. This year the competition selected the suburban area, Valenzuela city, Philippines, where often caused serious damage because of typhoon, tidal and river floods throughout the year. All the participants need to put forward targeted design proposals through comprehensive consideration of many complex social problems such as disasters, environment, pollution, poverty, management, religion and etc.
