From November 28 to 30, 2025, the 7th China Computer Education Conference (CECC) was held at the Xiamen International Conference Center. During the conference, the award ceremony for the 2025 Ministry of Education-Huawei Intelligent Base Excellent Teacher Incentive Program took place, where Associate Professor Tang Deyou, the course leader of Database Systems at our school, was conferred this prestigious honor.
The program aims to recognize university teachers who are engaged in frontline undergraduate teaching under the Intelligent Base initiative and have made outstanding contributions to the cultivation of nationally strategic scarce talents. Only 20 university teachers across the country receive this award each year.
Associate Professor Tang Deyou has integrated the openGauss kernel architecture and core technologies into the theoretical teaching, practical sessions, and extracurricular activities of the Database Systems course. He has also incorporated openGauss R&D projects into various teaching links, including curriculum instruction, exploratory experiments, student research programs, on-campus internships, and graduation design, thus fostering database kernel development talents through industry-education integration. The course has earned several accolades, such as being named a Guangdong Provincial First-Class Course in 2021, a Huawei Intelligent Base Golden Course and Excellent Courseware in 2022, and winning the Industry-Education Integration Excellence Award at the 2025 Guangdong Provincial University Teaching Innovation Competition.
In addition to the latest honor, Associate Professor Tang has previously received awards from Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd., including the openGauss Open Source Contribution LinkedIn Teacher Award, Kunpeng Zhizhi Starlight Award, and Pillar Teacher Award. Under his guidance, students have achieved remarkable results: 4 students have won honors such as the Huawei openGauss Open Source Contribution Elite Award, openGauss Academic Research Contribution Award, and Kunpeng Zhizhi Golden Quality Award; 7 students have secured first prizes in provincial-level competitions of the National College Student Computer System Ability Contest and the CCF Algorithm Ability Contest; 25 students have been granted Huawei Intelligent Base Scholarships; over 300 students have passed the openGauss comprehensive assessment with an excellent rate of more than 96%; and 119 students have obtained Huawei micro-certifications. Most of the undergraduate graduates majoring in database under his supervision have gone on to work at renowned IT enterprises like Huawei, Alibaba, and Tencent, or pursue postgraduate studies at prestigious universities at home and abroad.
