Recently, Stanford University and the internationally renowned academic publisher Elsevier jointly released the 2025 World's Top 2% Scientists List. The list consists of two parts: the Lifetime Scientific Impact Ranking (focusing on the impact throughout an entire academic career) and the Annual Scientific Impact Ranking (highlighting academic achievements of the current year).

Professor Tan Mingkui was selected into both the Lifetime Scientific Impact Ranking and the Annual Scientific Impact Ranking, while Professor Yang Lei was included in the Annual Scientific Impact Ranking.

It is reported that the World's Top 2% Scientists List is based on a systematic analysis of citation data from the Scopus database. Using six composite indicators (C-score) including citation counts (distinguishing self-citations and non-self-citations with self-citation data provided), H-index, and HM-factor, it selects the top 2% of scientists from nearly 7 million researchers worldwide. Covering 22 fields and 174 sub-fields, the list has become an internationally recognized authoritative benchmark for measuring scientists' research contributions and academic influence due to its objective and rigorous selection criteria.
