On April 15th, the Kick-off Meeting for the Comprehensive Reform of Industrial Software Talent Cultivation at South China University of Technology was grandly held in the Lecture Hall B8 of the University Town Campus. The meeting aimed to implement the strategic deployment of Guangdong Province to accelerate the cultivation of industrial software talents, break through the bottleneck of talent cultivation, and build a new ecology of industry-education integration. More than 70 representatives, including Jiang Lin, the director of the Higher Education Department of the Guangdong Provincial Department of Education, Mr. Zhang Shunmao, the senior vice president of Huawei, experts in the field of industrial software, Professor Xu Xiaofei, the former vice president of Harbin Institute of Technology and the president of the Weihai Campus, Vice President Li Zheng of South China University of Technology, as well as leaders, teachers and students from the Academic Affairs Office, the School of Excellence Engineers, the School of Software and other relevant schools, attended the meeting. Vice President Li Zheng of the SCUT stated in his speech that through the comprehensive reform of industrial software talent cultivation, guided by the demand for outstanding industrial software development and applied talents, the school will explore and design a coordinated mechanism and plan for integrated industrial software talent cultivation with the characteristics of SCUT. This will effectively promote the school's education and teaching reform, and play a greater role in cultivating industrial software talents and tackling technical problems for the country and the Greater Bay Area.

Director Jiang Lin from the Higher Education Department of the Guangdong Provincial Department of Education pointed out in the speech that industrial software is the lifeblood of the digital and intelligent transformation of the manufacturing industry, and talent cultivation is the key to breaking through the bottleneck problem. The school is required to accelerate the transformation of majors, speed up the construction of curriculum resources, strengthen internships and training, promote the integration of industry and education as well as the integration of science and education, and provide solid talent guarantee for the development of domestic industrial software. All parties, including schools and enterprises, are encouraged to carry out collaborative innovation, achieve interoperability of resource sharing standards, and strive to build Guangdong into a national demonstration area for industrial software talent cultivation.

Mr. Zhang Shunmao, the senior vice president of Huawei, introduced the background of the comprehensive reform of industrial software talent cultivation, emphasizing that the reform of industrial software talent cultivation should adopt a closer school-enterprise cooperation model, strengthen the integration of domestic industrial software enterprises and university teaching reforms, and jointly promote the talent cultivation work in depth. At the same time, the school should further strengthen support for major transformation, new curriculum construction, teacher training, practice teaching base construction, student internships and training, postgraduate cultivation, digital teaching resource construction, and student skill competitions, etc., to accelerate the cultivation of industrial software talents. 

Professor Cai Yi, the dean of School of Software Engineering, introduced the comprehensive reform and construction plan for industrial software talent cultivation on behalf of the school, elaborating in detail on the multi-disciplinary integration, the talent cultivation goals of undergraduate and postgraduate connection, the comprehensive reform ideas, specific content, guarantee system, and plans. 

Professor Xu Xiaofei, an expert in the field of industrial software, highly appraised the talent cultivation plan of SCUT, hoping that the university will bravely take on the role of a vanguard, give play to the advantages of multi-disciplinary collaboration, strengthen school-enterprise cooperation, improve the talent cultivation system for undergraduates, postgraduates, and doctoral students, and strive to build the comprehensive reform plan for industrial software talents into a model plan, playing a leading and exemplary role in revitalizing the industrial software industry and achieving collaborative education through the integration of industry and education. 

During the meeting, the flag - presenting ceremony for the departure of industrial software talent cultivation was also held. Mr. Zhang Shunmao, the senior vice president of Huawei, presented the flag symbolizing mission and responsibility to the student representatives of the 2024 Industrial Software Excellence Class of the School of Software Engineering of South China University of Technology, marking the official launch of the comprehensive reform of industrial software talents. In the subsequent speech, student representative Huang Mingzhang expressed his firm determination and mission to engage in the field of industrial software, demonstrating the demeanor of the new generation of students.
